i mean the meter goes up a huge amount when you hit (in comparison with GH3) not that it doesnt go up enough! I've thought that as a reason too.. in GH3 the meter rises really slow. But i can't verify that, because i don't know the exact amount how the meter should rise with correct notes / lower with failed notes.

well it depends on how many notes it's in the song. if you hit exactly 50% of the notes, the rockmeter arrow should be exactly where it's when you start the song. that's because 1 miss = 1 hit in gz2 atm.

Ok, just downloaded puppetz hero, pretty good so far.
I noticed that the songs have a script.txt file, which contains strings and the times at which they should be displayed. I think it would be neat to have this feature implemented into GZ2
Here's a snippet:
# Lyrics script: Guns 'N Roses - Paradise City # Scripted by YMS for Puppetz Hero 22820 2300 text Take me down to the paradise city 25320 900 text Where the grass is green 26320 2000 text And the girls are pretty 28520 3810 text Oh, won't you please take me home
From simple observation, and comparison to the song.ogg file, it looks like the first number is the time in ms, the second is the duration in ms, the third is the event type (for other FoF event types I guess), and the last is the string to be displayed (though other event types might use it for something else). It also looks like the first two lines are comments. (anyone with experience feel free to verify or correct this).
I had one other idea, but it slipped my mind while I was typing that all up... if I remember, I'll post it.

that sounds cool. looks like you got it right, but i wonder what other purposes there is than txet. since text is specified, there should be some other functions too, right? this could possibly be used for rockband songs easily too..

Looking in the FoF tutorial song, there's a "pic" event:
26000 5000 pic pose.svg
There could be a few others, but I have only looked around a little bit.

i have a suggerence respect the text_x.png my english isnt good... ------------------------------------------------------------------- an example: text_main.png have 5 layers -go play .. 1° layer -training .. 2° layer -multiplayer .. 3° layer -options .. 4° -quit .. 5°
the second layer is positioned under the first layer third layer is positioned under the second layer and etc.
the suggerence is: all the layers can be positioned in the SAME place? when one layer is selected, all the others layers will disapear this will add the pssibility to do changes to the background when 1 layer is selected the bad side of this would be: all the mods will need modification
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
an alternative add + or - 38 more images
something like this: goplayselected.png , trainingselected.png ...., xpertselected.png ... etc, one image for each selection of the game
an example: goplayselected.png will be above mainmenubackground.png and under text_main.png (between mainmenubacground.png and text_main.png)
this will add the possibility to do changes to the background (some like one element of the background is highlighted or a "box/button" showing your current selection, etc) when 1 options is selected
if the mod will not use that resource, just will do this goplayselected.png = empty image, 1x1 px
-- thanks for read.

more volume options, and some comments in the xml's about values etc:
<song>100</song> <!-- Range = 1 - 100. This is the volume of the song.ogg file --> <guitar>100</guitar> <!-- This is also a important/useful comment --> <bass>80</bass> <!-- use the value "false" to deactivate this option, or the value "boost" to kick [censored] --> <rhythm>50</rhythm> <!-- you figure it out -->
..think comments could be useful for booth modders and rookies.

Edited to merge my three last posts in one 1) Scrolling text in the setlist for the "artirst" and "title" tags wich doesn't fit. 2) Take advantage of the whammy distortion effect. It will be GREAT that you could map a key/button to change whammy effects on the fly, switching between three or four effects, with a little gear or something on-screen that shows which is the effect in use. If this is done, it will be the FIRST game to do this. By the way, i have to map the whammy bar to the select button, because i can't get the bar working. I use a super dual box pro adapter and it used to work with the original GZ. 3) I am inspired today What about adding a menu to select the fretboard like fof gh3 mod do? I suggest to add a stage selector too.

thats a good idea but, when you're in one difficulty, and you choose a song without that difficulty, the difficulty selection screen comes again with the available difficulties, just press "back" and choose another song. or... make a folder called "easy, medium & hard" and another one called "xpert" and put the songs in their respective folders XD lol jk

Post by derelict68 on Apr 19, 2008 0:36:04 GMT -5
Yeah, I know it pops up the difficulties it has available, but I'm only starting out with hard, and I play a lot with my friends just sitting around, and many of them are not even to hard yet, so looking at the whole list is tiresome when you go "Oh yeah! I forgot I had that song..." "oh, only expert...darn" but I don't want to take out all the expert songs because I have a few friends who play them. I dunno, I'll figure out my folder structure, but it would be nice to have in the game....
on another note, because I am starting out on hard, I'd really like to go straight to practice from the quick play screen and back again so I can go practice that solo, then head back to the song (like GH3) without having to back all the way out.
EDIT: It's amazing how when you first start posting you just can't stop because you've been holding a bunch of stuff in while reading enough of the forum so as not to say something too stoopid. Anyways, I'd like to see a volume graphic based on the comp's master volume, I play on a media center and sometimes my computer lags a bit while changing the volume, and I don't know if its changing so then when it hits it blares or goes silent....
Not to overwhelm on ideas, but I'd like to put my vote in for having a way to have random SP phrases for songs that don't have them, and I don't necessary need a star power meter right away, but at least an indicator telling ya that you have it ready would be nice. I got to the end of a song yesterday and went to hit SP, and nearly shook the guitar out of my hand trying to activate what wasn't there....lol

I know it's probably been mentioned. Hell, I'm probably the one that mentioned it xD.. But i'm to lazy to go through and check.
I think the ability to change the fretboard during a solo would be good. Like Rock Band does.. Have something in the song.ini or something like...
<SoloStart>3:24</SoloStart> <SoloEnd>4:12</SoloEnd>
Solo Start = 3:24 Solo End = 4:12
Or something like that. And from 3:24 - 4:12, the fretboard would change to whatever the image is. And have something in the textures folder like.. "FretboardSolo.png".
And preferably, have a % pop up to let you know how much % you hit of the solo. Cuz, it's just not the same unless you know how much you actually hit ^_^
Obviously make the song still playable without the solostart/soloend sections, just, not add the solo stuff(fretboard/%)..
?

Great idea TXF! I would love that feature. Without the %, it'd be kinda dull. Bonus points would be awesome too.

agree with derelict random sp phrases or maybe default sp phrases (like in FoF) would be awesome! some songs r not the same without sp, maybe add something like "Add sp phrases = 1" in song.ini

Post by iamsensay on Apr 19, 2008 12:50:56 GMT -5
Yes the inclusion of default SP would be an excellent addition. How would you define how many SP phrases would be in the song though? Accurate SP is not just based on the length of the song but also the difficulty (in GH games) So although there would be an excellent advantage to including SP like this there could be the drawback of either too much or too little SP or SP in stupid places (FoF) Personally, I like the SP being chosen as this makes far more enjoyable playing. And you can notice a HUGE difference playing the same song in FoF that has default SP and assigned SP.
<EDIT> TTFATF with no SP? Theres a minor inconvenience LMFAO!

It's only minor inconvenience in GH...and maybe fof...but it's easy to beat without SP in GZ xD

Another request: The ability to turn SP off in the xml. <Starpower>false</Starpower> or something. Because sometimes my computers acting up a bit, so the game itself runs fine, but when I get SP, it freezes for a couple seconds, and i miss a good chunk of the song. I would like to be able to turn SP off and be able to avoid those lag spikes. I mean off...Like..OFF OFF.. They don't show up..they don't give you SP, lightning dont hit. Nothing. Thanks for reading

Another two: 1) Please Please Please add support for dead-zone for the whammy bar. I finally got it to work, but it is unusable because the spring of the bar is a little soft so the controller is sending little analog movements all the time. 2) I think that all config.xml options that applies to the songs themselves, like volumes or hyperspeed could be overrided by added in song.ini locally. Example: Puppetz Hero's "Stairway to Heaven" is a quiet song, and it's volume is a bit low, so the crowd sound are very annoying and the volume song needs to be higher. A custom song and crowd volume in this song.ini will correct this issue.

@iamsensay: the starpower phrases r defined by time and its the same for all the dificulties and yeah this would be a nice option also for songs like rock band rips wich has a weird sp phrases (only the solo notes r sp) ---------------- callisto also would be cool if u add a coop meter cuz the normal meters dont fit too good in multiplayer and looks ugly if the rockmeter dont looks like the scoremeter

I second the solo % thing, but I dont for the bonus points, as that would take it outta line and incomparable to the others that would play FoF or GH3, etc. I like the fact that my scores in GZ2 are very comparable to the other players in the world playing GH3 and/or RB (dont know how scoring works there).
I would like the crowd to stop constantly cheering when I'm doing good in a song. It's annoying and it hurts my ears when it's cranked up (treble kills)
Hyperspeed is good where it is, just need some in-game option switches for things like this. I dont wanna have to go through hundreds of songs and switch off hyperspeed when I dont want to play with it.
instead of having the misses there (also very annoying) if there is more than 1 second between notes you should be able to hit a fret and stum and hear a corresponding tone. Like green I could strum and hear a low guitar tone, similar to rockband. The reason I suggest 1 second between notes is because I dont wanna hear these notes when in the middle of a fast-paced song and I miss. Maybe name these 5 tones like toneg, toner, toney, toneb, toneo (letter corresponds to the colored button they're linked to). This way during long intros (like metallica's one, the rediculously long intro) or breaks you can go nuts and kinda do a little solo of your own, and of course holding more than one button will play both tones.
The volume thing in individual songs would be good, like TTFAF is a little on the quiet side.

for hyperspeed, levels, like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, similiar to GH3 would be nice.

For chart and midi files, it would be good if GZ would end the song at the click that the "end" event appears (this is how Guitar Hero ends songs). If the event is not present, then just wait for the song file(s) to reach their end like it does now. Certainly not a critical feature, but would be nice if it's easy to implement Backstory: For some of my songs, I've put in extra silence at the end so Guitar Hero won't lock up by reaching the end of the audio before the song's "end" event occurs. I put far too much silence in some earlier songs, like 10 seconds (wasn't thinking too hard apparently) so now when I play them I have to wait a bit before the song actually ends (except when I exploit the glitch that ends the song when you strum really fast ). Some Guitar Hero songs also have a bunch of extra silence or otherwise buffer content, too (Raining Blood ripped from GH3 has a whole minute extra of raining sound, but GH3 stops the song early on into that section, I think).

How bout a new Tag for the song.ini? Tier Order? Like, .. GH1 "I Love Rock N Roll" would have "Tier Order = 01"... "I Wanna Be Sedated" would have "Tier Order = 02".. so they can be ordered like they are in the actual games?. (unless it already can, and I missed something ) ALSOIs there ANY WAY that you could some how do Star Power differently? For some reason whenever I hit a series of SP notes, my game freezes for a few seconds, causing me to miss notes. The rest of the game runs fine, 'cept that. It's quite anoying when trying to 100% a song. :/

Another great idea by TXF, I would love to see this feature. Either that, or multi-folder support, and just name the folders by game version songs, then by tier.

Another great idea by TXF, I would love to see this feature. Either that, or multi-folder support, and just name the folders by game version songs, then by tier. Perhaps I missed something, but I think what you're asking for already exists. You caan setup folders within your songs folder for GH1, GH2, GH3 and so on, and then folders inside of their named "1 - Opening Licks" "2 - Amp Warmers" or whathaveyou, however once you get down the that level, there is no way to order your songs within that tier, because they are automatically ordered by artist. I kinda planned to just rename my songs to start with the number until this was added, but I think they'd go the whole nine yards and have you setup a setlist.dat file or whatnot that had the tiers and the songs named and numbered like I believe FOF does...not sure though.
