3. To me, taking a video of a GH3 song is basically the same as ripping. There's just no original art in there (no offense to moonflow). no offense taken at all. i realize this is a cheap way of ripping gh3's stages and characters. but this is most definitely true. we really don't have a fair balance of rips and original mods like down at fof. although most of those mods are just simple google image replacements :/ isn't that one of the main reasons that you haven't released a full public (non beta) version if it? even now, do you have original textures for every graphic? haha. i know i haven't helped with that at all so i shouldn't say anything but it is rather funny.

TeanThanks for your offer - I'd really like that. I needn't be state of the art at all - but if we had something to get us all started, that would be great. For example: Just a simple stage - can be composed of a few boxes with textures for all I care I believe in addings things incrementally. Same goes for the character. Let's start with one dummy character to whom we might add a single animation (i.e. strumming). That would be a start and it would surely inspire others to come along. moonflow43Well, simply look at the menu graphics and backgrounds - I'm still using all the stuff from GZ1. I'm hoping that someone could come up with a GZ2 design that I could put into the default distribution!

For menus, whatever happened to Cunfusingboat's stuff? If someone needs to do the XML coding for all of the graphics that's no problem, I'd just need the source PSDs to work from or all of the necessary images. I don't want to step on CB's toes, but if he doesn't want to do it, I will do all the XML stuff for it.

TeanNow that is a very good question. And even more important: What actually happened to ConfusingBoat himself? He was one of the most skilled artists around, but I haven't seem him one for quite some time? ConfusingBoat - where the heck are you? Sadly, there are a lot of awefully skilled people who left along the way - or at least I haven't seen them for a long time: evilcheez, jillerdevil... Of course, there are a lot of contributors still active here, so I don't wanna be to whiny. Still, I wonder what happened to some people on the board...

i seen jillerdevil online the other night...maybe he just isnt active.
and i havnt seen CB either. come to think of it i havnt seen him in months.
if i had knowledge of XNA i would be 100% involved in making things for the game, but im a dumbass with that stuff so i cant contribute much anymore. i was able to do somethings in GZ1, but now that everything is different (better) i cant.
i think that what we all need to do is dig back into the Art Submissions threads and vote for what we really want to go ingame. there were pleanty of amazing things in there, and to be honest i seen only bits and pieces actually show in BETA 1, which really saddened me. i remember the excitement on Christmas morning when i unzipped that very first GuitarStar beta...man it was amazing. i want that feeling again, but i guess i see that without really laying out what you have as a community, the little tweaks and updates here and there are nothing more than an expectation. maybe we can all individually make something for the game, include our name on it, and then make a new game. in my mind that seems like the best way to put the spirit back into GuitarStar. who cares about high-polys and awesome animations? callisto is right, you have to do things little by little to actually make it good.

Hey everyone, it's nice to see that some people are still interested in the project. I do realize that I'm partially at fault here, because in the beginning (and even now) I don't really have a good idea of how to actually motivate and focus all the talented people in here. Regarding menus, I'm open for suggestions. In my idea, I would like to have something that follows the general GH/GZ theme. That means freaky doodles, paper-based setlist etc. Actually, I do like anything that doesn't look too clean. Also, I like if things do not look too dark. Confusingboat and EvilCheez both started mods that have elements which I like: Confusingboat's version: (Nice, distinctive style - background could be brighter) guitarzero2.proboards78.com/index.cgi?board=20modpacks&action=display&thread=667EvilCheez's mod: guitarzero2.proboards78.com/index.cgi?board=20modpacks&action=display&thread=663For EvilCheez's mod, I especially liked the beta 2 version background (this yellow thingy). I'd also be interested in hearing your ideas. I'm easily convinced if someone comes up with a better style xorange90xProbably it's also a common vision that's lacking. Let's see if we can improve on that. I really like the way the submissions-section was structured, perhaps we could have something similar for WIP items? JD2504Jep, you're right. @stranx The unnamed mod looks just a bit too futuristic to me - but it also highlights that you're one hell of an artist! Could you create something that follows the style above a bit more? Doesn't need to be finished or polished - rather a screenshot/mock up that we could post here and have everyone discuss. fatdogCan I use those notes that you sent me - the ones with the HOPO shine? If yes, do you also have "regular" and "starpower" notes that go with that style? Wizrad, darthslaw You guys are perfectly right.

the note with the glow was part of the gh3 style note set, obviously they aren't rips but it is designed to look close to the originals, im not sure if thats a problem, but if it is then i could adjust the shape a bit so they aren't so similar also the hopo i sent isn't finished, i need to see how it looks in game so i can update it properly so its ready for use, if it looks ok now that was purely luck, its hard to make something properly when u can't see what the end result actually looks like if theres a version i could use to see the glow properly i can update the notes and put together a complete set with normal and stars ready to use

Obviously this probably won't be added any time soon, if it's added at all. Ok... I had an idea. It's probably been thought of/mentioned before, so meh. But if not, well..good. I was thinking of some sort of "add-on" folder/files. They have an "add-on" folder in the Half-Life mod "Garry's Mod". It's a folder, where you place "mods"...not graphics mods and such.. but mods that actually change the way the game does things. For GZ2, people could make add-ons that change board speed, add things to the options menu(such as board speed/Set Difficulty/etc).. It could add/remove rotation of meters, and SP notes. It could change prespective of the Fretboard, even things that add new things to the game, like adding animations to places that don't have them. Changing animations, and making things bigger/smaller(such as, durring a long note, the little ""sparks" come off the sides, and fly off, well, you could make those go higher, or lower, or outwards, etc..). You could change the size allowed for flames, and things, and people could make actual rock band "flames". I think it'd be a really good and usefull idea. Because it would allow us to modify the game itself, without having to modify the source code, and create 50 new versions of GZ. We could simply make a few "add-on" files, put them in the add-ons folder, and be done. You could have multiple add-ons running at the same time. And a bunch of other things. I have NO idea how you would be able to add this feature. As I have no idea how to do anything related to coding of any kind. It was just an idea. I thought it was a good idea anyway. And sorry for the long read.

ok i'll continue making mods, now i have some ideas.. but... a suggestion can it be why we dont change to a higher resolution before the people here make more mods? i say that because, when the higher resolution comes, we need to redo all the mods, this will be better if we have a few mods to redo... or can you release a gz2 beta 5 update 4b (this will have the same functions/updates that update 4a haves, just, this will come with an higher resolution, this alternative gz2 will give some time to the moders to update their mods to a higher resolution.... untill the mods arent updated we can just use the gz2 beta 5 update 4a)

stranxkI've been ducking away from that problem a bit, but I am very aware of it and I will try to push it up a bit on the priority list. @everyone Regarding a career mode - has there been any success in gathering and fretting a few songs for the game? Bye, Callisto

@callisto couldn't you just make it so we can make our own career modes? Like, have a folder called "Career" where you place a single set list of songs, and you would play those songs in career mode? (That way we could just use official GH/rockband songs, or things like FOF hero/Puppetz Hero/etc.) Just a thought. Might be a bit easier than getting a full list of custom songs specificly for this.

@ Callisto -- sorry for being ignorant, but is there a specific name that you want the menus to call the game? I.E. the executable is GuitarStar, but most of the menus call it Guitar Zero or Guitar Zero II. Do you have a preference?

@callisto My roommate + band have written a bunch of songs that I/he could tab for the career mode (Alternative Rock+Metal). I got his approval this morning to offer his material for the cause. Unfortunately, we don't currently have any recordings with separated guitar + bass tracks. MySpace band pageWe had already charted two of the songs a few months ago on expert+guitar. Download below: Down Aero Sample Song PackLet me know what you think.

@everyone Regarding a career mode - has there been any success in gathering and fretting a few songs for the game? I would actually prefer original music, stuff you cant get anywhere else. Synthesized, midi, really playing, etc. It'd be cool to have a career in which you play songs noone else can. TXF: about the moddability... Other than the XML's I dont think thats possible without releasing the source code. Callisto could always release the game with separated modules such as gameplay, menus, setlist, etc. But thats alot of work to split it up again. Again I'm nowhere near as skilled as Callisto at XNA so it might be possible.

stranxkHave you tried using the calibration tool to make sure that the "neutral" y position is reached when you're holding the guitar slightly upwards, i.e. like this "\"? That should solve your problem, shouldn't it? iancerI don't understand half of your rant. Please make a structured report of what you're trying to say. Are you trying to assign a button to starpower? If yes, where exactly is your problems.

i would llike the option for starpower to be assigned to right stick up(analog/tilt), and the back button(digital) simultaneously, as in gh/rb...
thank you.

iancerYou can already assign multiple (i.e. 2) buttons to one functionality (e.g. starpower). Your "problem" simply is that you miscalibrated your controller and your guitar always reports the "tilt button" as being presed down.

i have tried the calibration tool windows - joy.cpl - run - properties - settings - calibrate... no result i put something like this in the "y" " \ " = all the way down " l " = all the way up.... Gz2 reads this: (the first part of the image, click to enlarge) that shows, gz2 isnt reading the calibration settings from the calibration tool ------------------ i have tested with "Gamepad 0" (like controller in gz setup) instead of "Xbox 360 Controller one", with "gamepad0", GZ2 reads the calibration in the calibration tool, but, i dont have whammy =S -----------

Hi callisto, i have read conflicting stories as to whether or not the crash caused by playing avi files as backgrounds is to be fixed? I thought id come straight out and ask you directly if there is any intention, soon or otherwise, of fixing that bug? Just so i know before i invest much time in this aspect of the game! Thanks as always
