I did not know where else to post this, and it came across my desktop RSS feed. Apparently Vista shares kernel code with Server 2008 Longhorn. No surprise, is common for different flavours of an OS; even Linux or Mac "BSD", to share the same basic code, aka the 'kernel'.
However, a Vista Ultimate install is approx. 10GB. Now the 'patch' that is to be released; already tested in Beta by Longhorn testers, is 10GB.
Now, I am not the 'smartest' man, however if you have a 10GB Operating System, and the 'patch' is 10GB.............. What did you SELL the public??
Anyrate.. I posted this on my tech forums; saw it already on the more 'hip' guys, and thought I'd share since we get a lot of M$-Virus-Vista users here.
If you guys do not want tech, security, virus, or other computer related 'news' posted here, please PM me and I'll stop. Hell, PM me if you want MORE!! Just let me know.
This is my 'job/hobby' so I thought I'd include my new community..
Below are my findings.
SOURCE
google words = Unofficial Service Pack for Vista leaked to web
for more information, sources, and research.
"Unofficial" means it's probably going to be bigger. I pray you paid your broadband bill.
EDIT: Also, I ran the 'source code' boggle across some people that know a HELL of a lot more than I do about it. And this is the 'basic' response. Hopefully, Travis will give to the 'cause eh? He HAS to know there is interest. If HE don't want to partake, then hopefully the source will magically appear in a PM?

Some of the fixes called out in the release notes seem to point in that direction, since they describe issues and patches already posted to the Microsoft support site. The item pegged as "resolves an issue where a computer can lose its default Gateway address when resuming from sleep mode," for example, is likely the same as an April 24 Vista fix.
The AeroXperience site even posted results of early testing of the packs' performance. According to a write-up here, systems updated with the Vista Performance and Reliability Pack copied large-sized folders in less than half the time as unpatched machines.
As of Monday afternoon, the fix packs were still accessible on at least one non-Microsoft download site. The performance pack update weighed in at 10GB, while the compatibility pack was considerably smaller, at around 2GB.
Although it may seem odd that the fix packs were released to Windows Server 2008 testers, that operating system -- scheduled to launch early next year -- shares code, particularly in the kernel, with Vista.

I have only seen "disassemblers" which will output an assembly file...
Getting back to c++ code is more difficult, and I've never actually seen a program that does this. There would probably have to be a different one for each compiler out there...
