DUDE WTF? I completely wiped my hard drive and rebooted last nite and the virus some how managed to get through. My computer is like brand new now... except the virus still lingers!
anyone ever deal with this before? what is it? am i screwed?
I'd like to point out that MOST of the errors and whatnot are mouse-related. however i do know for a fact that this is not a hardware problem. tried three different mice. and there are also other errors, such as windows and programs randomly popping up and whatnot.
help?

Sorry to sound like a Microsoft hotline service, but did you have internet connection on before installing virus software? I got pissed with my old computer because all I did was to have my internet connected when i booted first time after installation and I was going to install virus scanner, firewall etc. The viruses managed to block my attemps to install the software everytime.
Worst case scenario would be the recently found CPU-leak with some Intel processors. I happened to read about it couple months back. The leak gives access to a part of the main system memory that only BIOS can usually read. I'm not sure if it was just a rumor or a true fact.

Some may even get paid for making new viruses.
Well I hope you'd solve your problem somehow, I can't give you help how to get rid of that virus but I guess someone here will be able to give you detailed help.

Perhaps you're system has a hidden partition for recovery? Right click on my computer -> manage -> disk management. It'll show you all possible partitions and your system restore may not delete the recovery partition. In this case you need to do a real wipe of the system before using the system restore utility. Try googling for "DOD wipe" or I think the last time I did that I used the "Ultimate Boot CD".

virus scan didn't pick it up. yah. mcafee sucks [censored] through a straw. never picks up any viruses except the ones that dont do [censored]. i know it's not a hardware problem. if it is im screwed anyways because i have a laptop. and no extra partitions. to be clear, i wiped the whole hard drive, then reinstalled the windows operating system. no system restore or anything. symptoms include:minimizing and maximizing of open windows. random clicking, even when the usb mouse is unplugged. not being able to click at times. right clicking when actually left clicking. sudden but temporary freezes. on another interesting note, i plugged the usb mouse into my other crappy xp computer, and 2nd and 4th symptoms occured, but not the 3rd. and as soon as i unplugged the mouse, the problems went away. seems it might be a hardware problem, but the 1st and 5th symptoms are definately virus related. no way hardware could cause that. it should also be noted that while mcafee will not actually identify the virus, it will tell me that my computer is not secure.

alright cjb, first things first. Go and download this app majorgeeks.com/download3155.htmlRun it and it will save a log of your system. Send that to me via PM and we will go from there. Above all else, do not panic. There are numerous reasons why malware may have survived a reformat. It does not immediately = bios virus. And then symptoms are not indicitive of such a scenario. I will help more when i have the logfile. Thanks dude

actually, i think i know what happened.
remember i said my usb mouse seemed to present some of the symptoms? well i had it plugged in right after i rebooted. right now my cpu works fine because my mouse isn't plugged in.
i think what happened was i got a virus and at the same time (coincidentally) my mouse stopped working for whatever reason. when i rebooted the mouse made it seem like the virus was still lurking on my cpu and that's that i think. because the windows weren't minimizing and maximizing after i wiped and rebooted, and there were no system freezes either. just mouse problems.
i'll do the log thing anyways tho sensay, just to be safe. and if that turns out to be the case, then my question is do you think the virus infected the usb mouse somehow (and if so can i fix it)? i don't know [censored] about viruses so you'll have to shed me some light.

before i rebooted. my first post wasn't exactly clear. i was sorta angry.
i meant that i tried 3 mice and thats how i knew it wasn't a hardware problem and it was indeed a virus (before i rebooted).

Seriously? I have never used any kind of AV software, at all. I use firefox so I stay safe browsing. I don't even have windows firewall or anything. I have been at least 3 years now virus free.

It's not hard to tell if a download or something is bad or has suspicious stuff. First, I NEVER use any programs like limewire. Second, I use Utorrent for torrents, so I can see all included files and choose the right ones to download. Third, I'd know if I had some suspicious activity with my computer, I don't have any popups, performance drops, or problems. Haven't seen a blue screen ever on this laptop.
