Hey guys, wsup. I just bought some new pc parts on a major major budget. Just wanted to see what you guys thought of it all, and if you think it will be ok. Firstly, my current rig is as follows: Asus OEM board that cant go past a P4 1.5GB ram PC3200 9800GT 500W OCZ PSU StealthXtreme My main objective was to get a dual core to fully utilize my bottlenecked 9800GT. This is what i bought: Foxconn K8M890M2MA-RS2H - 20GBP (fuckin bargain) HEREAMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ 2.40GHz 39GBP HERE1 x Kingston HYPERX DDR2 1200mhz 1gb 8GBP (insanely cheap, but i could only get one so i dont have matched ram, is this a problem?) HERE1 x 1GB TRANSCEND PC2-6400 DDR2-800 8GBP (got this to max out the ram on my board, dunno how its gonna work with the kingston though) HERE1 x Coolermaster RR-KEE-L8E1-GP KE Cooler AM2 Fan 5GBP HERENow, i know that the board only takes 800mhz (PC 6400) ram but the kingston will downgrade to match it and at that price who could refuse it!? I am really curious what not having matched ram will do hough so any advice on that front welcome! Other than that, anyone have any comments on this setup? I was majorly dissapointed when i got my 9800GT and noticed no improvement over my 8600GT from before, so many people said it was a CPU issue, so im hoping this fixes it. Or is that just silly? TIA Guys

damn £3.20 for 1 gig damn it man why do i never find these sort of deals, that's just lucky as hell, or there's something wrong with it.
and the motherboard, how the hell did you manage to get it at that price damn it.
and yeh it would be a CPU bottle neck last time, since i hear a mention of a p4.

£3.20 for not just 1GB of ram, but 1GB of really really good RAM. I got it so cheap by crafty bidding, if its faulty ill return it. As for the MB, they have more in stock at that price. It a cheap and nasty POS really, but it has the basics i need, overclockable, takes my gfx card and a dual core, i can get a new board later on. What screwed me over here was needing to get RAM,CPU and MB at the same time, so it forced me to by cheaper parts alltogether, still, at least i have an ok basis from which to upgrade further now.

Match the ram. If you don't you could run into some serious issues -- seriously. You can have different size sticks, but I only recommend doing this if they're the same brand, speed, and timings.

Ah crap, i bought them already. Care to explain what 'serious issues' i could run into?
Thanks

Ok heres some things i know about this, when using different types of ram, your ram will run at the lowest speed, so in other words it would be the same as two of the cheaper ram, the Kingston's speed wont be taken into account, (so id recommend getting some more Kingston ram instead or something with the equivalent speed), it probably will say that there is less ram than there should be because of this aswell.
Next point i notice that there both DDR2 ram, so it may still work, but there has been cases (ive heard not delt with) with it doing things like this fecking up motherboards, so be careful and make sure the Kingston ram is under clocking otherwise it could pose some problems.
anyway it looks like it could and will work, but the results may be a little under what you expect.
Btw, just out of interest what cooling are you using for overclocking?

OK, well the board only takes pc2-6400 and the kingston is pc2-9600 so it would downclock no matter what, the other stick is pc2-6400. I have contacted the ebay seller and asked if he would like to cancel the sale, i dontt hink he wanted to sell it for that price anyway, so heres hoping.
As for OCing it, well, my case is an old server tower, and is fitted already with three additional case fans, at present my GPU runs at 22C idle, 30C load. (its not a malfunction or misreport, ive checked so many times, my case is like an ice box) My P4 prescott reaches about 45C on load, which is very good for the notoriously hot running prescott cores.
Im hoping to manage a pretty effective OC with the cooling i have now, the only thing i can see myself possibly needing is a bigger and betetr cpu fan down the line.
