Hey! This is my first post, and I'm a noob, so go easy on my butt, OK? Anyway, I downloaded the GZ 'game', and everything seems to work except when I configure the strum bar. The green, red, yellow, blue, and orange buttons set up fine. The whammy sets up fine. The 'start' and 'select' set up fine. But not the strum bar . I ended up using my 'select' button as a 'strum down'. I can play the game just fine, but the strum bar 'issue' has me bummed. I tried this with two different Rock Band 'Strat' guitars as well as a Front Man guitar. Same issue. Does anyone have any suggestions, other than sending me through some maze of FAQ's? Any help is greatly appreciated.

i'd send you to a faq, but we've never had this problem before. lol. but i DO know why it's happening.
those guitars use something called POV or something like that (it's P-O-something). in short it's hard for some cpu's to read this, although generally it is handled by the program. might possibly be some sort of driver program. but i don't know much about drivers for rb guitars; mine worked fine with the game. hopefully someone more knowledge-able in the field of drivers can help you out.

that's not what i was talking about at all. DRIVERS. NOT usb converters. You shouldn't even need a ps2 usb converter for any rb equipment.

Well, I never bragged about being kompewter litterot. What I have done today is (through Device Manager) update any USB drivers that came up with an available update. Then I removed GZ and downloaded it again through a different site. Then........ crossed my fingers. Same old, same old. Then I tried my Logi-Tech USB PS2 controller, and the mofo works. I don't like it, but it works. Something is weird. Now I have also tried a portable USB hub, as well as an additional PCI USB 2 card. I may break down and try a GH guitar, or some other USB guitar. Maybe the RB dongle is not completely compatible with my PC? Ah well, as soon as I have it, you'll know.

lolololololol dude! i haven't got the faintest idea wat the crap you're talking about! please, stop taking action on your own and answer these questions; it will help me greatly in understanding your situation: 1) Do you have a Rock Band Guitar? 2) If so, what system is it for? 3) Does the Rock Band guitar have a USB device with it? (I assume right now that this is what you meant by "dongle.") 4) Did you download the game from this post? It currently sounds like you might have gotten a different version of the game. 5) Finally, what EXACTLY is your problem. In your earlier post, it sounds like you are saying that only the strum bar doesn't work. But from what you are saying it sounds like maybe you are having further problems...

Then I removed GZ and downloaded it again through a different site. Ummmmm....are you playing Frontman or GZ? Because there was an old game called GZ, then there was GZ2, which is now frontman. Pretty sure if it was the original GZ there was a "strum" issue, could have pertained to RB Guitars. I remember cool saying "I wish the strum problem wasn't there, because otherwise it'd be complete!" Try downloading Frontman and playing that.

Maybe I know more about computers than I pretend? The 'dongle' is the wireless adapter that goes into the USB port of my PS2 (I know I am a dinosaur, and I apologize). I have the 'fat' PS2, and not the 'slim'. This is the Rock Band game, or Rock Band 1. The guitar looks like a Strat, and has the duplicate fret buttons up top for wee hands or for tapping madness. I bought another genuine Rock Band guitar, for those head-to-head contests . I downloaded the game from a site called 'guitar-zero.uptodown.com' so I will try the link CJB100 suggested and let you know. If derelict68 is right, my problem will solved in........ ooh, say a few minutes.

ya i think the problem was prolly that you either dl'ed GZ1 or that you dl'ed an older version of the game, like derelict said.
you are most definately not a dinosaur, ps2's are awesome. lol. i have the same rb guitar and i know that if you have the correct drivers it will work with the game no problems. and
yes, dongle is still an appropriate word when used correctly, but most times people incorrectly use the word, so i had to ask. btw you know exactly what a dongle is so cool...
hopefully we helped you out dude.

!@#$% I downloaded the FrontMan Beta 6. Now I get a pop up when I try and start the program that goes something like this; [glow=red,2,300] GuitarStar crashed. Cause: Missing File. System I.O. File Not Found Exception. The specified module could not be found. Exception from HResult: 0x8007007E Additional Data:[/glow] Rats. And the Megashare file pops up as corrupt. Well, that's one way to spend a Thursday. I'm calling it a day for now. Tomorrow is another battle.

A wild guess, but I think you don't have any of the prerequisite applications, such as .NET Framework. Use the full installer and you should be able to run the game. If not, just come back with screenshots!

yup that's what i am thinking happened also. the installer doesn't work well with vista sometimes.
just go back to the wiki page and download the prerequisites and watnot.

For some reason, I have a habit of uninstalling and reinstalling programs that don't work the first time. I'll even use a registry cleaner and really make sure I left no footprints of ever having had the program. So I do that, and now Frontman works. The setup even lets me configure the strum bar . Now, the strum 'up' seems flaky, but the strum 'down' works 100%. So I'm good to go, right? Not yet. Now I get a message that I have no songs in my library . Off to read how to download some songs. If it matters, I am still on XP. A friend that is on Vista with the 64-bit can't even open the file, so I feel a little better still being on XP. So far, so good, and I learn something new about my computer everyday, so this is a blast for me. Thanks.
