It's a little generic for my tastes but there's some nice melody things happening in there. Few lead parts aren't as 'dead on balls' in time as you'd get in professional works (but that's usually due to a million takes and beat-matching software). Overall, I've heard a whole lot worse but I've heard better that sounds nearly exactly the same. I think you'd benefit from experimenting a bit more, personally but whatever... and hey, at a guess; EzDrummer VST with DFH patch (certain on that one; I use it all the time ;D) Line 6 POD or Behringer V-amp (pretty sure, but I geuss it could be a VST too) EDIT; Just read the above post. Pretty expensive little toy. You reckon it's worth it cuz I was thinking of getting the bass version a while ago? and for sequencing.... Hmm... Garageband for a Mac, or... maybe FL for a PC? (almost total geuss) As for bass VSTs, do you mean playing bass or synthesising it? A good plugin for bass if you're playing it would be the Waves GTR3 but it would totally undermine your PODXT, so unless you wanna sell that to buy the plugin (couldn't possibly download it oh no!). For synthesising it, ythe best one at the minute is ReFX Slayer but I'd reccomend running that through a seperate amp modeller because the one in it is fecal mattere. Or you could try Yellowtools Majestic Bass Guitar VST; it'll make great sounds, but it's £200 and takes up 16GB of space and a whole lot of CPU. EDIT: Did a bit of looking and Cakewalk make a full studio set of VSTs (piano, drums, bass, stings) for only £40. store.cakewalk.com/b2cgbp/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=10-CWSI1.00-30ECakewalk's stuff is usually mindblowingly good.

Really well written harmonies- I like the polyrhythm in the... chorus? When the 2 guitars play different rhythms, anyway; kina throws the feel from the very steady (almost robotic, in fact) 4/4 feel; the groove is still there but its nice to mix it up a bit. Very good dynamic control, as usual but the level of compression on the track makes it difficult to appreciate this completely; could just be the MySpace lo-quality version, but even still, metal if supposed to be really compressed, anyway. I can't really hear the bass guitar, if it's there at al, I think it probably got lost amidst the massive guitar sound, which again is fine for metal... even if I don't think it should be.l
I would say that the mix overall is pretty good- the guitars sound absolutely huge, the keys are nice, you can hear the double kicks and the snare isn't overpowering. However, I would say that it actually sounds quite harsh and bass-light which could be one or more of three things;
1. MySpace compression sucks (I know this to be true) 2. Your monitoring system wasn't intended for mixing- what speakers/headphones do you use?
3. You spent a long time without a break listening to the track while mixing it and your ears get fatigued; My first impression of the track was 'that sounds quite harsh', but not by the end because your eyes get used to excessive amounts of a frequency and after a short time ignore it. You can do some really creepy things to people with that.
Is there any way I can get a medifire or similar link for a higher quality version, like a .flac, .ogg or even the .wav? Or, could I be massively cheeky and ask for the FruityLoops session?

Hey guys.. Ive made some re-writes to my song.. mainly the mid section.. and the second half of the breakdown.. a bit more raunchy.. The new version is up on my myspace ( www.myspace.com/hzacmusic ) I also have uploaded it to an mp3 at mediafire.. if anyone wants to download it.. (im not sure of the quality difference compared to myspace but it should be better) Link here: www.mediafire.com/?gjadrt1jngkAnd ofcourse for anyone that actually plays gitar and for some reason wants to learn it.. here is the new tabs: www.mediafire.com/?w55fh9upzjiNow@ canped Thanks for being the only one who has actually replied to this thread about my new song. ok. answer time. Thanks for the harmony compliments.. I know what your saying about the robotic feel.. im just at the stage where im comfortable with it and now i can move forward into other things.. like my new song that is coming up in about a week or 2. Any specific parts of the song you personally like? (a time [0:52 etc] you could tell me) I dont use compression on my guitar tracks.. the audio track in which i record them on has to effects or anything on them.. they are raw.. so maybe thats what your hearing? Im not really experienced in the ways of proper compression to get better sounding guitars.. any tips? Im guess the main reason for the guitar raw bass light feels is becuase the guitars were loud and the bass was actually turned down.. coz i didnt like it when it was rumbling my sub woofer lol. But in the new mix i jsut posted above.. I turned the guitars down a little bit and turned the bass up a good 3dbs.. so hopefully that will make a difference.. i know for a fact you can hear the bass guitar quite well at the interlude type dealio. as for specific responses 1. Im not sure if this has a great deal to do with it.. mainly my guitar tone im guessing. 2. Ofcourse it wasnt.. all my stuff was bought pre-recording era.. I have logitech x-530 speakers and TDK MP100 headphones.. (i only mix with the headphones) 3. To a certain degree.. yes. I just wanted to keep recording.. i find it really fun.. It would take me years to upload a .wav but ill give it a crack. awaiting a reply hzac

OK- first off, for a nice guitar tone, do what you're doing but remember that distortion is a form of compression in itself, so run a frequency analyzer on the guitar track and if it looks like the majority of the content is in the middle (around 500Hz-3Khz) and not much else, think about backing off the gain a little. I think your guitar tone is great; it was more the level of compression on the entire song, which was probably mostly down to MySpace. Getting a great guitar tone is what metal's all about and ignoring the bass, cymbals and snare in exchange. If it was a more classic rock feel, I'd say EQ the guitar to allow more room for those elements (lo-pass at 2KHz, hi-pass at 250Hz, sloped down to about 50Hz) but it wouldn't be the same; go for the big guitar every time; s'mighty. OK; you need to change your headphones, simple as that. You can't mix on those because they artificially enhance certain frequencies to make them more prominent but when you listen on other headphones, those frequencies will be gone, mostly in the bass area. Your subwoofer setup will do the same. Try it on an I-pod and you'll see what I mean. The problem with the track isn't lack of bass guitar, but bass frequencies so what I'd do is, since the kick drum is quite clicky, cut the frequenciesd on it below 150Hz and boost the low end (around 50-250Hz) on the bass track; if your subwoofer's going nuts, start cutting from the low end. Now, go to your kick drum EQ and set a pointer with a VERY high Q, and put it up to the maximum height, then move it slowly left and right until you find the point where it's loudest- that's the 'sweet spot' (I wish I could do pics to make this more clear... I'm on my new PC with no music software... I'll try to install something and edit this to make it clearer). Anyway, remember where that spot is, resest the kick drum EQ to what it was and go back to the bass guitar EQ, now, set up a pointer with a fairly high Q and cut where the sweet spot of the kick drum was. If any of that made any sense 1. Congratulations and 2. You should have a nice, clear low end to play with. Headphones? You need a set with a flat frequency response- quick search brings you www.productreview.com.au/showitem.php?item_id=51255For less than $20 AU They're not the best, I can personally recommend AKG but they'll be closer to $120, and those things will do the job fine. 'Course you could go all professional and get a set of monitors from M-Audio (I use 'em; they're alright) but if I were getting new monitors, I'd go for www.studiospares.com/Studio-Monitors/Studiospares-SN10-Nearfield-Monitors-Pair/invt/248000Which are seriously F*ing cheap for what you get, but I think the cost of shipping to Aussieland might destroy time.

hzac - I musically stupid, so I can't give amazing insight into how I feel you harmonies timed perfectly with the rising erection I heard in the track or anything like that. However, I think the best compliment I can give is that I generally am not a big fan of really heavy rock or metal, and I really liked your stuff. *shrug* take it for what its worth I guess
Too bad I'll barely be able to play your stuff on easy once it all gets charted and put into the GZ setlist.

well i've been producing an album for the past 3 years, and teaching myself along the way. It was a solo project for a long time, but i got a rapper/lyricist and singer/pianist/composer with me now, and i can play guitar now as well. These were made with magix music maker, and a few parts were made in fruity loops studio. I don't recommend magix, becuase it sux rele bad and u can't sell anything u make with it. I'm just making the first album to get heard. Then i'll make a second one with fruity loops entirely and sell it. We all have been working and making tracks since november, and we were s'posed to record vocals in february, but we just keep pushing it off. Here's my whole album in an Instrumental Version. Linkage! and like i said b4, that track u made is great. do u kno any friends that can sing? Cuz that's all that i did, asked some friends to pitch in... Do u play anything besides guitar? I used to use magix, now I'm using this M-Audio studio. Works great for me. Now I only use Magix for AMVs
