I have a LOT of songs but only about 10 of then have solos and starpower. I request that it would be easier to place starpower and solo tags in the game. It would be easier to read the tags from song.ini since it already reads there for fretters name/song name. Tags: <Starpower>1:30 - 2:00 <Starpower> <Solo> 3:58 - 5:00 <Solo>
This would make it more user friendly so that people like me can just place these tags there or in another .xml document so that we can have these things in the songs.
Of course the pseudocode in half English half Retard: if song.in contains <Starpower> then execute(StarpowerCycle)
StarpowerCycle = load FretboardStarpower.png
if song.ini contains <Solo> then execute(SoloCycle)
SoloCycle = load FretboardSolo.png

Personally, I think it's much easier to do it in feedback or a midi sequencer. You can actually see what you're doing.

Because people like me do not know how to write the songs, let alone use the programs to add things like starpower and the solo on. It would be much easier if this could be applied because then I could just go through my 450 music files and easily place the starpower and/or solos in there that I want. Thanx for any input or any suggestions that anyone has on this life or death situation. LoL

I actually think this would be a great idea. So much easier in my opinion.

I don't really think it's a good idea to take "core" song data out of the primary song file(s). It's sloppy imo, and breaks long-standing conventions. .dat files already use raw times for star power paths... if you want to specify SP times with meaningful numbers (seconds), the capability already exists there, and there are numerous ways to convert all other song formats to .dat (plentiful information on these topics in the Tutorials sections) As previously mentioned, it's easy as pie to add SP in feedback, which can edit midi and chart files (only saves as chart though). - Navigate to where you want a SP phrase to begin (using up/down, or whatever to get there)
- press and hold the '8' key
- press the 'up' arrow key until you reach the point where you want SP to end
- release the '8' key
- Repeat for all SP phrases you want
- Save the file (it will be saved as a chart)
[edit] Adding solos in Feedback is also simple. If you have to listen to the song to get the times for solo and SP events, I don't see why you wouldn't just do it in feedback anyway. I remember back when I was using Freetar editor to chart my songs, and I had to enter the SP paths by hand in my .dat file. A frustrating process it was, listening to the song and guesstimating when to put the start/end tags. After doing that for so long, I know I'd rather do it in Feedback -- 10 times easier at least imo. [edit2] Though, I do remember some sort of script.txt or whatever for FoF. If SP and Solo tags (among other things) exist in there already, well, have at it then.

This is so not gonna happen dudes. Again, your asking for a feature to be implemented that 1) will only be of any real use to an incredibly small amount of people and 2) Is unimportant to the game on every level. Its not a new feature your asking cfor so much as we have sp and solos, your asking callisto to make an easy task even easier just for you? Seriously, get feedback. A trained chimp could add sp and solos when they know what buttons to press. Also, listen top darthslaw here, the amount of time it would take to determine the start and end point of a solo is not gonna be quicker or easier than the methods we currently have.
EDIT: Nice that i have not been on for 3 days and i lost 3 karma. Thanks a lot...

And 3 -- it makes it uber-easy for anyone to cheat. Theoretically you could make the whole song star notes with what you're suggesting. Not saying that's what you want, I'm just saying it could happen.

Yeah, I've been trying to help out with the "Restore Frizkie's Karma Level" effort, too. I exalted Sensay earlier today and once again now.
Is there any way to track Exalt/Smite events on the forums, or is it totally truly private?

i asked once, and was told it was private. GZGuy is the person to ask. I did smite frizkie a while back, but ive been rekarmaing him since. (it was a deserved smite friz, i cant remember why but it was...) I guess we should go back to keeping this on topic now! lmao

Yeah, I realize that, but if you're looking at a text-based edit you're looking at lots more potential cheaters, no? The guys who don't really want to bother downloading midi software might still cheat if they just open up a text-based file. That's my point.

Thanx guys for the tutorial for starpower and solos, someone had also posted it in the tutorials section. Ya, it is pretty ez to do, scratch my request about the tag support, but I would still like to end up seeing a better looking FretboardSolo in the future. Keeping working on the transparent graphics you guys and I'll work on putting starpower/solos on all of my 300 something songs.
