I was on youtube a long time ago, and I saw some guy play a GZ song called the Crazy [censored] Song. It looked really good, and I like guitar Hero/Zero challenges. I like GZ better cause the rock meter goes down faster. EDIT: Move this if this is in the wrong place. I'm pretty sure this goes in the help forum again, which most of my posts do.

Nope you got the section right.. but there isn't a request here it's all one statement. lol. And if you saw it on youtube than the song prolly has already been done. search scorehero.com and/or the fof song database.

How would I make songs from scorehero work with GZ2? does it accept MP3s? Or would I have to convert OGGs or what?

you can just rename the file from "file.mp3" to "file.ogg" and it will work.

Will that actually work? I'm fairly certain the files are different. Renaming the file doesn't magically make it a different format. Otherwise the extension would be useless. You'll probably have to convert the file with an actual converter such as Audacity.

@triple D: Looky Here, lol yah we thot conversion was the only way to do it for a while, but you can actually get away with renaming extensions for songs and pictures. EDIT:: well i'm pretty sure songs will do it, but i know images will work and i am certain that videos won't work like that.

I saw it too. I sent him a personal message and I'll see what he says.

renaming mp3s to .oggs will not make them .oggs but it doesn't matter at all. Whatever way the program works, it reads mp3s as OGG if you just rename them. It does work.

yea it just works with GuitarZ if you use the file in any other program you'll most likely get an error.

For the record, it works in FoF too (raph666 didn't believe me and started a huge argument about it; basically said I didn't know anything about music production if I couldn't understand file formats. It works fine, just like I thought it would because the game isn't a media player- it reads files as raw data). OGG and Mp3, also .wav and a few others conform to a set of rules about file formats that make them interchangeable to the right kind of reader- .wma doesn't work because it doesn't conform to these rules.

Well that's friggan awesome, but I'm still going to convert to OGGs because it would take exactly the same amount of steps. Though, that is a pretty cool.

ya i convert anyways just to get it to ogg, the extremely well compressed file with the best quality, (besides .wav, which is an insane size.)

Besides wav, flacc, aiff, some wma, some mp3, raw PCM... OK, OK, I'm nitpicking. Its all variable but there really is no need to convert an mp3 into a .ogg with Audacity- just renaming it will have exactly the same effect and may save filespace with zero reduction in audio quality. Converting a lower quality file to .ogg won't make the quality any better.

yes but i always get the highest quality song file possible usually a variable bit rate 240-320 kbps mp3 file, then convert it, therefor giving close to maximum quality and saving space.

of couse but if you've got a fixed 128kbps or lower mp3, you may as well rename it

|
|
Post by CJB100 on Sept 2, 2008 20:01:29 GMT -5
definately. actually if you got a 128 kbps file i'd recommend finding one around 160 or 192 kbps. especially if there crashes or splashes or rides on the drums in a song.

If you're using a .chart file, you don't even need to rename it to an .ogg file. Leaving it with the .mp3 extension (or whatever) will work also, as long as you point to that file in your .chart header.
Here's a chart I just tested this with (using a file named "mysongfile.mp3")
[Song] { Name = "MP3 Test" Artist = "No Artist" Charter = "darthslaw" Offset = 0 Resolution = 192 Player2 = bass Difficulty = 0 PreviewStart = 0.00 PreviewEnd = 0.00 Genre = "Metal" MediaType = "cd" MusicStream = "mysongfile.mp3" } [SyncTrack] { 0 = B 100000 0 = TS 4 } [Events] { } [ExpertSingle] { 19200 = N 4 0 }

How would I find the song? Here's all I could find fretsonfire.wikidot.com/custom-songsI don't think it's in there, I been searching for a while, but are there any other links to a different website with the songs? I also searched scorehero, and didn't find anything. Not sure where else to look.

It works fine, just like I thought it would because the game isn't a media player- it reads files as raw data) i'm not sure that exactly true. as callisto said in the meta types thread, the game looks at the file and the header INSIDE the file states the file type and most programs just detect the header instead of the actual file extension. if you were to hex edit the header of the file, to say ogg, i'm sure the game will see that it's a ogg and try to play it. but if it's actually a mp3, it won't read it right which would equal fail. all music types aren't read the same, they are all encoded/compressed differently

try renaming a .wav or .mp3 to a .ogg- it'll work or your money back garunteed. A .wma will not; its the only one I've come across. Snice I've had a bottle of lovely Australian wine, I'm happy to say I don't really understand why it works, but it does.
