Didn't know where to post this, but I wanted to start a thread to ask people what they would want if it was possible to put in the Guitar Star Updates. Below are some of the things that I think would be nice to have. -Add a song video option that allows you to choose which video you would like to see playing in the background while you are playing your song and/or add the effect of making it so that you can put a code in the song itself that would tell it which video to use. (That would make it so that you can set which video goes with which song). -Added to the practice menu would be a tutorial song list that would pull up esc0rtd3w's GZ2 Practice Section. This is here: www.guitarzero2.proboards78.com/index.cgi?board=20songs&action=display&thread=1853-Make that gold glow effect trigger when you get a little bit of starpower on the rockband mod. -Add "Drums" on the instrument selection screen instead of just Guitar and Bass. -Make the blue solo board prettier. LoL. -Add support for having lyrics right under the fretboard. See video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwJBXuXQkc4-Add the option to change the sorting of your entire song list. By song title or song artist. -Fix the #@!$ing rock meter! It's wayy to hard to play some of the songs because you fail out faster. -Add the "50 and 100 Note Streak" Popup -Make the starpower effects look closer to rockband/guitar hero. Post your WishList as well! Maybe some of these things are possible in the near future.

SoD SasquatchReally, post these things into the requests thread. Just FYI, those two points are already in the game: -Add the counter that tells you the percentage on the solos. -Add the option to change the sorting of your entire song list. By song title or song artist. CJB100Yeah, I'm not a really big fan of changeable note windows. Is there any real reason for it?

a changeable note window would be kinda cool. Just cos fof do things does not mean we cant. It gives the user the ability to play a more realistic clone of each game if the note windows are adjustable. GH1 style GH2 style GH3 style etc etc
As we already have some awesome mods, the mods could be more complete if they each had the option of ther own respective note windows and timings etc.

I am against note window changing.. with scoring being implicated soonish it would be come unfair and impossible to determine highscores

IF there was a changeable note window option, the best place to have it IMO would be as hidden files on the web server. Basically it'd be a song.ini for each song, and the window threshold for each song. Obviously if we did that we'd need to have a copy of that ability on the local game, but when trying for a high score (competition mode or something like that) it would pull the threshold from the site rather than from whatever they player has their threshold set to locally. Users such as admins and moderators (whoever Callisto/Confusingboat would think best) upload individual song.ini files to a folder. That folder would not be viewable from the web, but GuitarStar would know where the folder is, meaning it's the only thing that could access it.
Bottom line, that allows for n00bs who want to have huge thresholds to be happy, but also keeps the high scores consistent. AND having that online would give accurate-to-original-game scores while making sure there's no way to cheat.
FYI, I know this kind of stuff is possible. I'm an ASP.net programmer, and we do similar things all the time, having our local apps take configurations from the web server. (in our case, it makes it really easy to update certain things. We update the web file, then each end-user is constantly updated).
Anyways, that's my .02 cents Callisto. Have a "High Score/Performance/whatever mode where the threshold is read from the server for online multiplayer/high score posting. On the local side put the threshold in song.ini or in the .chart header, allowing folks to set harder/easier ones if they wish. I think that'd be the happy medium everyone's looking for. But it's your program, and we'll follow your lead.

look i h8 it when everyone's just like "ya adjustable note windows suck [censored]." tean made a truly arguable point in both views. then he set out to try and find a happy medium.
and i do agree w/ tean's idea to an extent, but then, wat about costum songs? and think about it people! jeez some people like me find the current note window so big that it is annoying and actually harder to play w/ than a gh2 note window. others like it just like it is currently. some like gh3 hopo's and others like gh2. people will end up choosing the note window that suits them best, so it ends up evening out, since everyone's going to obviously pick the window they play their best in.
for instance, the total n00bs are going to pick a massive note window, and prolly still do suck-ish, and the people who are actually good enough to pass w/ gh2 hopo's/note windows will use those, and most likely get better scores cuz they're used to it.
i'm not saying make it so adjustable that n00bs can hit anything w/ ease on expert. i'm just saying, make it like fof's where you can choose gh2 note window, gh3 note window, or the default note window. that's it, that's all i'm saying. and in case no one noticed, fof has online scores too, and no one complains about this stuff there. so they gotta be doing something right.
and i'm not an fof fanboy either, i just rele think this one feature should be made more like fof's.
EDIT:::
agreed.

I'd like to see a visual change to the fretboard when playing. I'd like to see it longer, or with the same length but smaller in width. Mabe it's that I'm accustomed to GH3, but I think that a change of size would be good anyway. The problem, as I see it, is that you can't see to many notes ahead. If you look at the attached picture you'll understand what I mean. The thinner fretboard is from Gutiar Hero 3 while the wider one is from GSB6.3. The GH fretboard is not actually thinner, it's smaller, but with even more range of vision ahead, so you can see more notes in advance.

i like this idea, but in the end it comes out to personal preference, just like pretty much every other feature that could be implemented. there should be an option for all this stuff.

I already asked callisto about this and he said he modelled it after the gh2 fretboard

I'd like to see a visual change to the fretboard when playing. I'd like to see it longer, or with the same length but smaller in width. actually it has nothing to do with the size of the fretboard its all camera angle and callisto has it set to the angle of gh2 not gh3

I must say that the Guitar Hero 3 fretboard is my favorite, but that's not a big ordeal right now. I would rather see other features and see this game fully operational before worrying about these things.

Got another request for support on lyrics while the song is playing. Puppetz Hero III came out a little while ago and as you can see in this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwJBXuXQkc4 the lyrics are going right under the fretboard while it's playing. Just wandering if anyone else would like to have this besides me? Maybe an option to turn it off or on on config.xml or something.

would be cool but not necessary at all and there is a lot that goes into making and using lyrics in a game like this.

For all the praise Puppetz gets, I don't think that's very well fretted.
I'm not bothered about adding lyrics support because I can't be bothered typing it out when I'm fretting and wouldn't miss it when I'm playing.
Actually, my biggest wish at the minute is to implement the entire config.xml into a usable in-game options menu.

Agreed. At this stage it's just extra "Flashiness". Down the road when/if drums are fully implemented it might be nice to have lyrics so that someone can sing along, but for me it's #850 on a list of 1000 things I'd like to see.

Hmm...wasn't thinking about actually have a singing option in guitar zero but if that's what we're building to, then awesome! Of course I wouldn't hardly sing any of the songs, I just wanted to see the lyrics while I was picking or drumming out, that's why I asked. FOF has a lot of good ideas that you guys should think about adding. I probably would have played it but after one day of downloading it, I still couldn't figure out how to get it to work. They don't have a very good way of saying "this is the program and this is how you put it together". But turns out, even with the video in the background, I could run FOF fine. I can run GZ fine just not with video. Just wanting to put out something about the lyrics under the song to see if anyone else would also like it. Instead of just sticking things into games, we could just vote on whether we should have this or that. Also guys, seen the chat room. I couldn't get the website way to work so I downloaded mIRC and it worked fine but I hope that more people will begin to get on it.
