I have no idea who you are, but i think its pretty cool that someone with 3 posts jumps right in to help the forum. Thanks, ill be sure to grab the songs. you've got a good way to keep organized, like the table. Save yourself some work though, you dont have to do all difficulties. I got burned out on freetar after fretting 6 songs.

I did all difficulties (and star power) for the sake of completeness. I tend to be a perfectionist, so it's sort of in my nature. In addition, I want my brothers (4 total, all playing on different difficulty) to be able to play the songs I work on. I have to agree that freetar burnout isn't the best thing to get yourself into, but it's one heck of a lot more pleasant than trying to line up a midi file in Guitar Pro or such with the song (guessing tempo changes to keep the notes in time with the real song is oh so tedious). If there were one feature I could request for Freetar editor, though, it would likely be click+drag select. I'm probably pseudo-obsessed with tables... I learned how to do them over the summer at work, and since then I've been using them wherever I could. Fairly simple stuff when you know what each part is for: [ table][ /table] = creates the table [ tr][ /tr] = specifies a table row [ td][ /td] = specifies table data (in Excel, this would be a cell for a row) To create a table like this one: Cell 1 | cell 2 | cell 3 | another cell | an image | cool stuff |
...this is the code: (ignore the black periods preceding each line -- they are there only to enforce spacing in the quote box)As you can see, there are two rows and three cells in each row. The order that they appear in the code corresponds to the order they will appear on the final table. Note also that you can use formatting and such inside of the [ td][ /td] tags. In most cases, whitespace will not matter except inside the [ td][ /td] tags (e.g. newlines -- see bottom middle cell). Hope that makes some sense.

Okay, I've got a number of goodies for you today. First of all, I posted Prince of Darkness and Smells Like Teen Spirit, as promised, though I will not be completing the versions that I have uploaded. As noted by the edit in the main post, I've taken up Feedback as my editor of choice. What may/will eventually happen, is that I would re-tab what I have in Feedback, and work from there. It's up in the air right now, but that's the situation now. Also, I upped two more songs I've been working on: Set The World Afire (Megadeth) and 540,000 Degrees Fahrenheit (Fear Factory). STWA isn't complete even on expert, but there's enough there that it should still give you some entertainment.

By the way, is there a general preference as to how guitar/song oggs are handled? That is, do you like the low/highpass filter thing I've been using, or do you prefer just using the unfiltered song for both channels?

Okeydoke, I finished 540,000 degrees and upped the final version. Additionally, I tabbed out Tainted Lovers from the PS2 game Gitaroo Man, and the Christmas mix of White Zombie's More Human Than Human (as included in Twisted Metal 3) Happy Holidays, enjoy, and let me know if there are any problems

Ok, so I've been working on a custom GH2 project... all songs will be complete with all difficulties, co-op, face-off, star power, lighting+events, etc. I'm going to burn it to a personal GH2 disc, but I will also be releasing the pack here when it's finished. Here is the complete setlist, based on requests from some people at my school. I may be reordering some songs in the career section, but the songs themselves should be final unless I find some reason that demands changing them. Some of the details on the list will also be changing eventually (i.e. some songs partly charted by other people I will rechart myself... these include Stairway to Heaven, Down with the Sickness, Tourniquet, Duke Nukem Jam, and several others). I'd be willing to release a demo pack of songs the that are most popular, so speak up and tell me what you want in the demo pack. Also, does anyone have ideas for what to call this pack? Not really sure if I like to call it slaw/darthslaw hero. I've been calling it VT Hero on my GZ2 (on account of I go to Virginia Tech), but that hardly seems an accurate title. So, I want suggestions. Thanks all. [edit] Oh, I forgot to ask... does anyone here happen to have a high-quality version of "Space" by P.O.D.? The only version I have at the moment is a rip from a Youtube video, and I doubt it's as crisp as the original source file. It used to be that you could download the song by buying the Payable On Death album and following a link on the CD software to the url, but that link has been dead since I bought the album. I've searched around Google and various torrent sites numerous times but haven't found anything. Thanks. [edit2] Btw, this is the video I ripped from:

New Content Alert! See the main thread post.
I uploaded a demo pack of several songs that are essentially finished (or nearly so). The pack contains Superbeast, Kryptonite, Wish, Tourniquet, I Am Hated, I Can't Drive 55, Wizards In Winter, and Links 2-3-4.
I also uploaded some background stream OGGs of various songs that are in the project; to install, put the OGG files in your "Guitar Star\Resources\sound\background\" directory. I used mainly live recordings, along with Audacity's GVerb filter to try to attain the same effect as the background streams in the Guitar Hero games -- some songs turned out better than others (the one that turned out best was probably Kryptonite).

I know the original was done by White Zombie. I took the "Christmas Mix" version from Twisted Metal 3's soundtrack -- when I go home in a few days I'll double check the manual for credits, though I remember having trouble finding a determinate composer/artist citation for this song.
Part of the trouble comes from White Zombie disbanding just a couple of months before the game came out -- screwy times.

EDIT::: wat about kryptonite by 3 doors down, and tourniquet by evanesceance and i wish you were here by incubus? i would love to use your songs, with credit to you. my setlist is moving along slowly enough as it is that's why i am asking.

Heh, sure, you can use Kryptonite, Tourniquet, and Smells Like Teen Spirit (and anything else of mine you want for that matter). Teen Spirit only has expert guitar and bass at the moment, but I'll provide you with the final version when I get there. I'll shift it up on my (imaginary) priority list I can't give you the okay just yet for I Wish You Were Here, though, since that's not my chart -- I (or you) will have to ask the charter (NoSoupForYou) on ScoreHero. Since I still need to ask NoSoupForYou (and several other ScoreHero charters), I can ask for both of us, unless you object. I'll wait on making that PM until I hear back from you.

By the way, is there a general preference as to how guitar/song oggs are handled? That is, do you like the low/highpa ss filter thing I've been using, or do you prefer just using the unfiltered song for both channels? NEVER have 2 identical channels as this will cause phase cancellation. UIf you're using high/low pass filters, make sure the crossover point is exact (or even leave a gap) or you'll get this same problem. Personally, I just leave it as one song or guitar.ogg

Aside from a few nitpick areas, "Tainted Lovers" was done rather well. Good sync and nice note placement. 176K Sightread.
Also, the *.dat file gave me some string error. Deleting it and using the *.chart worked though.

String error is probably from the ampersand (&) character GZ2 doesn't like that character, though GZ1 handles it just fine. Thanks for the feedback

Tainted Lovers, 540,000 Degrees Fahrenheit, and More Human Than Human (Christmas Mix), all came up with the string error. Deleting the .dat file does take care of it.
