the ad banners are generated by the site - I have seen in the past people getting banners replaced by spyware programs like GATOR - Some spyware programs will generate banners and ads based on prior browsing viewing habits - sort of like TiVo. If you didn't click on any weird sites.... maybe your boyfriend did......

Your taking about spyware and malware, which shouldn't be a big problem if you have the right tools, like me.
I "bought" PC Tools Spyware Doctor, and it's very good at picking up things. I can't tell you how many infections were on this computer; self-installing trojans that downloaded malware and spyware, trojans that displayed ads from nowhere, and the occasional tracking cookie.
Also, it's good to have AVG, and Ad-Aware, and Ad-Block Plus in Firefox.

I dont use anything, havent had spyware or anything in years...
As long as you surf using firefox, then your pretty much safe. And dont run downloaded .exe's unless you know its safe.

I have 'bought' so many Ad-aware and such things over the past 2 months and just find they annoy the [censored] out of me.

I'm using the 60 day trial of Norton that came with my computer... Despite the fact that it has expired, it continues to scan for some reason.
