For those of you who are scared of Nugget shutting this place down because he has trademarked Guitar Zero and Guitar Zero 2, please read this. It clearly states that unless he has registered "Guitar Zero" and "Guitar Zero 2" and included the (R) registered trademark, he can't take any authoritative action against anyone using it. Just for everybody's information, using the (TM) trademark is free and unregistered, even massive corporations do it. It basically means nothing except that you choose to use it as your name for something. Also, the (TM) and (SM) trademarks yield NO authority for anything, thus making them pretty much just eye candy that is used to scare away uninformed people from using the term.

I actually have applied to get Guitar Zero and Guitar Zero 2 to be registered trademarks of Nugget Gaming Productions, Inc., but since it takes several months for the paperwork to be processed, currently I can only legally use ™. However, the use of ™ does give me legal rights under the Lanham Act in the United States, and other domestic and international legal rights as well. Contrary to public opinion, I am not the source of all evil. The reason I have applied to get these trademarks registered is so that some company like Harmonix doesn't come and register the trademark and force anything to do with GZ or GZ2 to be shut down.

The trademarking and registering may work in our advantage.
If this happens, travis might be more reluctant to hand over the source.\
Just a thought.

I'm glad you trademarked it, but why should Travis hand over source code for something that will be forgotten if GZ 2 is better?

Why would we care whether or not he releases the source if GZ2 is better?

Touche, Nugget, touche lol. But why would you spend that much money on a trademark for something that isn't going to be profitable? Or are you planning on selling it. And if you're not selling it, are you going to release the source?

Not sure if he could sell it for profit, I remember when the makers of In The Groove got sued by Konami for basically duplicating the same game. So if Nugget were to release it for retail then there's a chance the same may happen. Not saying it will, just that there is a line that can be crossed.

Spending $650 on the trademarks is worth it, if it means avoiding untold thousands in a legal battle.
As for your other questions: currently nothing is set in stone, but I am not planning on selling it, and I am currently planning on releasing the source once I've done everything I can. I'm not going to be like Travis and horde the source once I can't/don't want to improve the game anymore.

Well that would make sense, except for the fact that companies like Harmonix probably don't give a rat's a*s about this project. And just for the record I don't hate you or think you're the source of all evil (XD), but I do think you're taking a far to corporate approach to this, with setting guidelines for every single thing. And by the way I'm not really diggin' your current main menu for Guitar Zero 2, just thought I'd share that lol.

Well, if you'd like to lend your amazing graphical art skills to my project, I'd be very appreciative. There's a reason that professional game companies have separate programming and design teams. PM me if you're interested.

R4L, may I remind you of these new rules made by... well, yourself. And the only people that are alienated are the ones that aren't mature enough to let bygones be bygones. I have three people that offered to help me as a result of that post.

I don't mean to be rude...but TOLD. Anyways, yeah this thread should be locked or something because the contents of it are straying FAR from stuff about trademarks...
