[glow=red,2,300]Addressing Songs[/glow] The time has come for you all to be able to submit your fretted songs onto the official website. Here's how I am planning on implementing this...
When you upload a song, it will be automatically added to a database of songs by the server. In the song downloads section there will be multiple options for downloading songs in various packs. Depending on which song pack you choose, the server will que up the songs belonging to that song pack into a custom download manager that I am currently working on (this is to avoid multiple confirmation of download messages so that it's more convenient). After you choose the song pack you will then select the directory for the download to be placed. The download manager will then create a sub-directory in the chosen directory with the title of the song pack selected, and all corresponding songs will be downloaded into the newly created sub-directory.
Any songs uploaded will be uploaded into a non-official song area. However, if ratings for a particular song exceed a certain standard that has yet to be set, it will be automatically moved to the official songs section.
Feedback?
[glow=red,2,300]Addressing The Forums[/glow] I have an idea for the forums. Migrate them to a new forum that would be attached to the existing site, so that accounts are linked. This would provide many large benefits such as more accurate ranking and accredibility for achievements, such as high scores in songs and whatnot. Also, it would integrate the forums aspect of this game more with the site, as they currently coexist as two separate entities. The forums area, however, would only be available to members.
Feedback?
[glow=red,2,300]Addressing New Ideas[/glow] So far with the site, I've been just sort of doing things here and there to make it better, but I haven't really heard any feedback on anything. So right now, I'm asking for everyone's help in looking for new ways to improve the site, such as builiding on already-implemented features as well as adding new ones.
So, anyone got any ideas?

Alright, you already know I like your ideas, so here are my thoughts on what you wrote.
Songs - Will the song manager function be an add-in to our browser, from a site, or a seperate app? I would prefer a seperate app myself, plus then you don't have the multiple browsers issue.
I guess I didn't have as much to say on this as I thought I would. Keep up the good work (speaking of work, how's the song difficulty rater going?) Actually that brings up another point about the server...you could automatically run the script on every song coming in, attach a value to it, then we could search for the top 5% hardest songs in the database, or choose a number of songs and ask for them in a pack named whatever we want and in order of difficulty. Would you be thinking the new pack we download could also have automatic tiers? Ok, my head is spinning at the possibilities...

a rating system should be implemented at some point so that people can rank a song's fretting, that way we can tell between crap songs and songs that are actually fretted well. also a flagging option for if someone steals your work, and then reposts it as his/hers, (although i can see problems arising from that, it might just be easier if people came onto the forums for help if that happened) obviously this might be very hard to do, especially right now, so don't rush anything, take your time and make everything as good as it was to start out with. i like every idea you have, so as far as criticism goes... well i really can't come up with anything to make the site better, other than, instead of the announcements popping up in the site navigation box, could it pop up near the top of the site instead, it's kind of annoying when i go to click a link and the thing changes on me (or did you already fix it so that it won't change when the mouse is over it?)

@ Derelict: The download manager would be integrated into the site, 100% server-side code, so there wouldn't be any compatibility issues. However, if we were to implement an actual song manager, this would be a separate application that would be downloaded and run on the client pc.
@ CJB: I'll see what I can do about the mouseover action on that announcement box.

on user submitted song, they can be a little outta sync, sometimes by 1/2-1 beat. it would be nice if there was an auto-sync type thing? haha cuz sometimes, people feel too lazy to fix it the hard way.
oh! and there should be an option to where you can change the "judgment" on the notes hit, cuz from what i can tell (and haven't found a way to fix/change, if there is please tell me) you can hit a note about a bit before, and that tends to screw me up a bit. it would be nice if they had the option like StepMania for the judgment, i would like the notes and have them hit dead on and not a bit before or after. ya know?
(sorry if this was for songs, the other request option wouldn't let my reply)

well, the first think you said, when the fretter makes a song slightly outta sync, could there be a way the website could fix it? the answer is most likely no, although it's really not a bad idea.
secondly, yes there is a way to change the game so that the notes are dead on, go to the main game folder, find the config.xml , and open it in notepad, thenchang the av sync delay or what ever it is to be a number value. if this doesn't make sense, post a thread in the help forum. you'll get answers to your questions quicker this way.

Not that I want this thread to stray any farther off topic, but regarding the requests, you don't post in teh requests thread any more, you create a new thread with the title of the post related to your request. Then people can reply back just your request whether or not they like it, and any questions to clarify the request.
Now, back to website ideas....anyone? Bueller? Bueller?....Bueller?

Sorry I haven't had much time to work on the site guys, I've been swamped; balancing school, work, and girlfriend is very time and energy consuming. But, I will say that the rating system and song upload / download system will be operational at some point in time for sure, it's just a matter of when. That's all I've got for now, later.

Hey, nice site but the server is really slow. And there's something needed to be fixed with the menu bar.

Umm... Could please make the registration easier? I still can't register. My password can't be used. It says Password Minimum length : . But the one I can understand is Non-alphanumeric characters required: 1. What is that? I don't understand.

In addition to a ratings system, a comment system should also be in place for songs. Also wouldn't be a bad idea to allow people to post a description of each song they upload.
In regards to offset syncing, offsets are completely unique to a computer. One user can have some crazy large global offset (the Frontman setting), and then make a crazy offset on the song itself. It would work on the user's PC...but others would have trouble. The only way I can think of to combat poor offsets is to enforce a standard timing (in this case, we already have one, the official GH/RB files) and hope people have their games synced up to them properly before testing/submitting.

Must have combination of letters, numbers, and non-alphanumeric characters, minimum of 1 for each as long as it adds up to minimum of 7 character password.
