There are a few reasons why I can see FM lagging.....
1. Your computer can't handle the game running at higher priority. Ever since Beta 6 (coulda been part of an update, I can't remember) the game naturally starts up in higher priority. Try to launch the game, then manually change the priority of the process to normal.
2. The second reason why FM usually lags is due to a lack of RAM, which you have if you're running Vista. Basically because your running Vista it's already snagging like 95% of your RAM, so FM probably doesn't have enough left over.
3. You mentioned an Nvidia graphics card, however you failed to mention which one. This will make a large difference as well, especially if you have a really shitty 64mB of onboard memory in your graphics card.
That's what I can think of....

right, youve probably got near the same specs i have, here is a few tips, first find a guide telling you how to disable services on vista (services.msc) make the theme to the windows clasic, go to computer then system then advanced system properties, first go to preformance settings, then go to adjust for best preformance, then advanced then virual memory then make sure automatically manage is clicked, then turn dep off, then go into msconfig and disable things under startup you dont need, then before yiou run fm open task manager then close everything with your username on it (under processes) and then click new task and brose to frontman and open it.
This should give you a large speed increase, it might not be fullspeed for you but it will be playable.
edit: yes i know its a large list of things to do, but trust me it wil make your computer faster if done right, Just be carefull and look at a few guides for the services preferable look for one with comments..

ernk.... WRONG! well derelict actually is prolly right for the most part with the vista taking up a buttload of ram thing. idk for everyone else but for me it takes up like eight hundred and seventy something MB of ram at any given time. anyways, open your config.xml in notepad and change the vsync value to false. if you need any help post back here and i'll give you more detailed instructions.

that would be simpler yes, the way im talking about saves ram and in turn makes it faster.
doing both would help, but just ignore mine if you realy want to.

Besides turning vsync off, you can always try setting "all-around helper" CompatibilityMode on. I doubt it'll hardly help in this case, but it usually takes out little fretboard twitchings.

if nothing works then obviously you're doing something wrong. when you set the settings, does the game "revert" to the way it was when you first got it?

IMPORTANT: Check your laptop power saving modes. Make sure it's at full power / speed always. Sometimes your computer caps itself to a "enegery saving" mode, which is on most vista laptops by default.

you said it is a laptop with Vista Home Basic.. so i am assuming it was a pre-loaded store bought computer. that means it is bloated with trials and junk software you dont need. do this and it should greatly help your performance: - goto Start menu - click on Run - type in "msconfig" (without the quotes) and press enter - in the box that comes up, click Startup tab - look through the list and turn off (uncheck) EVERYTHING that you dont need to start with the computer. some examples to uncheck would be anything that relates to any messenger like MSN, AOL, Yahoo, Windows LIVE, also media players like RealPlayer, QuickTime, Windows Media Player, stuff like imaging software, Actrobat Reader, HP software such as Printer software, any and all Microsoft Office programs, and anything else you dont want to start with your computer. - after you have unchecked what you dont need, click on Apply (make sure you press this!!!), then click OK, and click yes to the prompt to restart. please keep in mind, by unchecking these things you are not removing them from your computer, you are simply removing them from the startup sequence, this means they will not start with your computer everytime u load Windows. you can still access any and all of them through shortcuts in the start menu or desktop, etc. the problem with these things starting up is they consume much RAM even when u are not using them. by turning them off, you will free up lots of RAM, your computer will be completely booted up and ready to go much faster, and games (hopefully FM ) will run smoother. good luck! if you need any more help or u need something clarified, let me or anyone of us know!

u said Services, they are different than Startup. startup is the list of programs that start with your computer, services are the list of services that run within windows. but i guess we tag-teamed him with the same concept!

If his config file is reverting, it probably means he's typing "true" instead of "True" ...darn that case sensitivity.
EDIT: I still stand behind my thought that it's the damn priority issue...please do me a favor and try that first. I swear it'll save lives...

1. Check for Driver updates. 2. Check your laptops temperatures. 3 If the tempetures are higher than 80C then that means that you have problems There is some dust in your laptops fan that u have to clean up... And if that didnt work u should try to hit your head seven times to wall and try again.

Hah, he probably fixed it already and just left. I'm pretty sure between the all of us, we've fixed it. If not, his computer likely just sucks.

didja check the same thing for the full screen option? "True" not "true"? Actually, it's the other way round: in true/false options the right way is all letters lower case. In any other option, first letter must be upper case. Just to make sure, I confirmed this. @armadintoh The correct command to get the playlist in folder structure is "Directory".

"Directory" is case sensitive, make sure to check that Big D!EDIT Config.xml will always reset after a faulty setting, so if you feel like you're getting nowhere with it, I'd suggest to try Escortdew's GUI Option Toolkit.

Sorry about the mess, but I was wrong about the right command, I mixed it with the 'SortSetlistBy' command. The correct one is 'Folders' indeed, and since you've tried it and it didn't work, I'm more hoping you'd try the Toolkit. It's much easier to use and you don't have to worry about typos!

Yes, go ahead, my first guess is that you're missing the newest .NET Framework, i saw an error message about it in the actual toolkit thread. Send the screenshot here and we'll see if this case is the same.
