I've been playing for maybe a year, and my knowledge is pretty limited, but I'm thinking for those genres of music, you'll want a thick, heavy guitar. A telecaster would probably do. There are some pretty damn heavy telecasters, like the solid maple one. It's a tank.

Whatever it is, get it some Semour Duncan Jazz Pickups.
Extremely Versatile, Extremely good.
DO NOT GET A SQUIER. Almost everyone I know has had one before, they SUCK!!! Just cause your a beginner does not mean you deserve a beginner guitar. Get something that will play decent at least. If your looking for something good and not too expensive take a look at some Ibanez guitars. They're pretty cool.

Yea ibanez guitars impo are actually really sweet for the money, but i don't know anything.
One of my personal favorite guitars (for the money) is prolly the diamond series shecter. or however you spell that.
but like i said, my input doesn't mean a whole lot because i am really a novice in the area of equipment.

The lower end ibanezs, like ford cars, tend to take a dump on you after awhile. If you can afford to get a fender tele, then that would probably be a good investment. They look sweet and sound great.

Or you could buy a decent guitar not one that is produced for the masses in mainstream. But your playing style would be different to mine so i guess fender failecaster would be suitable

Failcaster? haha whatever. Teles are great guitars, and are more than suitable for playing those styles of music. ,[censored] dude you can even pick up the Jim Root signature which would be suitable for metal.

generally fender anythings are pos's. but i admit, i have one. it was my first guitar although i still use it a fair amount. it actually works fairly nice, considering most are (like i said above) pos's.

If fenders were pieces of [censored] then why do they have such a hefty price tag? you pay for quality my friend. You can not honestly say a bottom line ibanez is better than any fender guitar.

No, you dont pay for quality, you pay because people have sold out using them. "you want to be as good as this player becuase he plays one? well your gonna have to be charged alot extra" its exactly the same as gibsons
you can get much better guitars for much less

True. I would never fork out extra dough for a "signature model". Unless of course youre talking about the Marcus Miller jazz bass which i would cream my jeans if i ever get my hands on one.

lol i payed $150 for the fender hahahahahaha ;D
Higher priced fenders... they're the same thing just with a different design or you're paying a lot more for something just because of a name, like hzac said.
I mean, to an extent, the higher price you pay, the better the guitar is, but there is definately a point when the prices just become astronomical for no particular reason.

Well you also gotta figure that when theyre handmade, theyre more expensive then the mass produced guitars.

i have a four guitars, three are electric and one is accoustic. all of them are cheaper off brands, but my fav that i have sounds good and is really nice. its an Aria Nester sunburst green and white. the other two elecs are the same, they are hand made copies of Stratacasters, made by Cozart in Mississippi. and the acc is an Alvarez.
maybe stay away from the real pricey ones, u can get better quality a lot of times for a lot cheaper.

yeah, I have a B.C. Rich Beast, which is a nice guitar. I say go with your instinct. After all, a guitar is different for each player.
