Well I might be able to get a used Hammond organ for $1,500 if I take out a loan, but I will not be doing that anytime soon. I got the Casio and the Concert. Nice stuff, I'm willing to play keyboard parts for any one man band people.

XD I do bass with my keyboard, it works better than using computer midi and I've played bass with my keyboard in a real life band when the bassist wasn't around.

lololol but i can do that too! i just don't think it sounds as good as the real thing not to mention there are restrictions on the keyboard.

You could get a $150 midi controller keyboard and have the sounds of all of the above and more. Sampling technology has come a long way and I think there's no longer any real reason to get the real thing, personally.

yah but it's so much cooler if you just know how to play. cuz samplin and composing and stuff is cool... but it's different from being able to play an instrument. ya know?
well, of course you do, lol. you're canped.

You could get a $150 midi controller keyboard and have the sounds of all of the above and more. Sampling technology has come a long way and I think there's no longer any real reason to get the real thing, personally. The thing is it is that with the real thing you can do stuff that only the real instrument can do. Sampling sounds unrealistically perfect. The human ear actually favors imperfections. There have been many studies with 4 track recordings were they found that people tended to like 4 track better than sampled music due to it's imperfect tempo. In the 60's with 4 track there was no click track so or sampling so artists had to pretty much record live. Another thing is that with midi samples you can't get the diverse sound of different types of instruments. A Yamaha won't sound like a Kawaii. A Fender won't sound like a Ibanez. The size of the guitar and it's brightness. Tonging and embrasure play a big part in wind instruments along with brand, mouthpiece gauge reed hardness and personally style. All of this gets restricted in midi sampling. Do I even have to get into how many type of cymbals there are that can alter the sound. Take my work for it, midi sampling is ok, but the real thing is spectacular. Imperfection > Perfection

I've had a Casio for like 5 years now and it still works like a dream... Yeah, they're good. I've also got a 100 year old Geo P Bend "Crown" Piano that is a concert grand so it stand 5 feet tall. There is nothing like rattling the windows with that thing when playing the halo theme on it.

Maybe you haven't kept up to date with sampling technology, but just to give you an idea- in the Pirates of the Carribian soundtracks, no real instruments were used at all. BTW CJB, you still have to play it like any other keyboard!.
While some diehards may suggest you can hear the difference, with good software (I'm talking 20 GB of samples per keyboard!), I really don't think there's ANY difference, especially with electronic instruments, keyboards more than anything else.

And you can't beat the pure joy when successfully strumming a bared F chord for the first time. Or the sheer power of a pipe organ.

Oh; for pipe organ, guitar, bass etc. I agree 100%. But Wurlitzers, Rhodes and other electronic organs and keyboards- MIDI does it flawlessly. No keyboard can do guitar sounds well, whatever you pay for it.
