So I have a funny feeling that Callisto will be the only person who can answer this, but maybe there are others who know stuff about XNA that would be able to answer whether we're going to have support for just Rock Band Microphones (whom I understand to possibly have some pre-processing in them to put out a controller like output) or if we'll have support for standard Microphones like Singstar or Ultrastar. I guess I'd like to know because if the microphone is going to have to output actual button press type things, I might start researching the ability to have a program running that looks for a microphone input and translates it to button pushes (even if its just keyboard keystrokes)

If I remember correctly, I think Rockband's manual says that other non-RB USB mics can be substituted for the RB microphone, suggesting that, at least for the most part, their mic is just an ordinary USB mic.
Wikipedia agrees:

Oh excellent. I suppose I could have done my own research, it was just in the "GZ3 - Is it in the cards thread" there was discussion that the block box with the mic that people weren't sure if it was something that did some processing...I got concerned since I never plan to purchase RB equipment. Thanks again!

So the game converts audio-MIDI
Uh-oh. I've been there... that way danger lurks.

If anyone's curious, HERE are some 'as official as it gets' specs for Rock Band midi files. They're fairly convoluted when it comes to vocals, but that's the most documentation I've ever seen on it.

I've looked at some RB MIDIs and that list doesn't co-incide with what I saw at all. I think RB MIDIs a still a little up in the air

Just to let you all know. XNA 3.0 has a built in class for getting audio information (frequencies, etc). This means that it'll be far easier for callisto to add microphone support if the game is migrated to XNA 3.0 if it already isn't.
