The only request I have is:
Support for 640x480 resolution in fullscreen -OR- The ability to resize the game window in windowed mode.
Why? To support older displays (like arcade monitors, because this game is an awesome addition to an arcade machine!)

The code base isn't released yet, because I fear that releasing it too early will not advance the game , but will rather split development up into a lot of non-related mods. I used to play FoF and I noticed how they only release a version after about half a year - even though their community is much wider. There are not early releases because the developers dropped the game. Now the game is responsability of one of our own, Rogue-F, a famous Modder, responsable by the great RF-Mod. The developers have already said that they were dropping development, and if that they made a last release, it would be a fixed exe to correct the use of pyOpenGL 3 and it's lagginess that made 1.2.512 unplayable. The source is, however, released to the public, and anyone can mod it. I did it myself, to add a Scoremeter and Rockmeter to the game, and many other modders added much more content than the devs expected. HOPO's, Performance Options, Multiplayer, Failing Possibility, Song Listing, 2D Notes and Keys... So much... All done by the comunity. I think that, in time, you should release the source to a couple of interested SERIOUS programmers on the comunity. Or else, much like FOF, there will end up being 10 versions of the same game for different releases. i agree 100% and i also mentioned it in a different thead that the source should be released to certain people if i had a soruce that i could compile i would LOVE to add-in an internet face-off/ coop in the main menu for online play

Setting to windowed mode does NOT allow me to resize...
The problem is, in full-screen, the resolution is too high for me to display GZ on 640x480@25khz, which is what arcade monitors tend to need.
If I can resize the window and still see everything, I can play it windowed and drag it onto my 640x480 desktop over on the arcade monitor/set it up to load over there (assuming it remembers window positions) from a front end and bang, it's essentually "guitar freaks"... the arcade game... and, that's really cool...
If this was added to the game, all the people at byoac would be all over it, as well as all the front-end developer and player people (front-ends allow an easy way to have an interface to load all your games with...no messing with windows, etc, for convenience and added accessibility)

I tried to get avi to work as background and it made game choppy and caused a crash when quitting a song. Which gave me this idea that I'd like to pass on to someone who might be able to do something with it. The ability to have individual backgrounds for all the songs. With GZ2 defaulting to the standard background stage scene if a png is not found in the songs folder. It would be cool to be seeing a pic of Metallica on stage while playing Orion, or Heart while playing Barricuda. Unfortunately this probably isn't something a modder could pull off cuz it probably needs to be done in the exe itself. Probably just a few extra lines of code could give us an awesome new feature. Then we'd need a whole new thread for stage scene submissions

Hi, one in-menu gameplay suggestion... When you have a large list of songs there is a pain to scroll song by song. I suggest to scroll by 10 songs or so, by keeping pressed one fret button (the orange/fifth by example) and strumming up or down with guitar controller, or page up/down keys with keyboard.
Hope you take this little suggestion.
Thaks.

I would like to see a sensitivity adjustment feature. My Xplorer's tilt sensor is very sensitive that even the slightest tilt will activate star power. If that's possible I'd like to see that.

One suggestion: Ability to play against the CPU. Even if the CPU 100%s its part every time, it'd still be interesting to have it playing along side you. Kinda like a Boss Battle. It could play Coop..assuming the song has Coop. It could play Rhythm/Bass while you play lead(or other way around)..It could play the same thing as you, etc..Just like a normal 2-player game, 'cept against the CPU, and you get to choose what it plays Not neccesarily something to expect any time soon, but still, it would be something interesting to eventually have.

I would like to update my request...
I requested 640x480 fullscreen support or resizeable windowed mode support...
I would like to revise that a little, such as basic window positioning and color depth settings etc for startup either "remembered" by the program or input into the configuration xml...
That way it will be of benefit to everyone using any form of nonstandard display (from LCDs to arcade monitors to TVs etc).
As it stands, guitar zero is very difficult to get working in nonstandard resolutions or on nonstandard displays....
While we can enjoy it on our computer monitors, enabling us to enjoy it on our other screens would be of great benefit to us all (I can play on one of my TVs fine, but not the other, and not my arcade monitor, due to lack of lower resolution support, etc)

Hi, Does anyone else find that the background sounds are rather overpowering when playing a loud song? I get distracted by the crowd mid-song (especially on the quiet parts !) And i hate the mistrum sound being as audible as the main song. I think the place where this is most apparent is in the song select menu. For example, if i have just blasted through a particulary good metallica song at high volume i will then be taken back to the song select screen where the song clippets actually play at a louder volume than the song i just played! Any possibility of options to adjust these sounda? At present i use the mute button on my keyboard when i exit a song. This is ok but now that i am using a wireless guitar its more hassle to keep muting the loud menus. Anyway this is just an idea and has probably been mentioned before. Also wanna take this chance to say i freakin love this game! Thinking of setting up the guitar zero appreciation forum! Lol any takers?

@ninjakaj I'm very open towards a "stats" feature in general. Something that might also include more data, like average score, average hit percentage etc. However, I'm looking for a clean way of integrating it into the interface. Perhaps it could somehow go into the seltist and scroll into view after a second. Any suggestions - ESPECIALLY mashed up screen shots - would be very welcome.

@callisto ok here is a quick mock-up of what i think the song information bar could look like....it supports the artist, score, song label, and even the # of times played! it is a crude mash up, i think the actual song information bar should be a little better quality, where the info is more visible and easier to read, maybe the bar shouldnt be as dark, or we could change the coloring on the font... maybe the text should be centered as well, its still open for disscussion, i just think this would make SO many user happy @ once, ya know? about the "# of plays/Rank": well im sure you could add a tag in the score.xml to keep track of the playcount for a song... i was also thinking as well, maybe on the "More Stats" screen (to avoid 'accidental favoritism'), you could add a "Rank" button. pressing it will cycle through the 4 posible ranks for a song (You can not 'unrank' a song, since the option to select 'No Rank' wil not be available. only unplayed songs will be assigned 'No Rank' by default. if they are never ranked, they will retain their 'unranked' status. the only ranking options that should be available are Favored, Liked, Disliked, or Hated/)- <)* (Golden Flaming Pick w/Sparkle) - Favored (Added to 'Playlist'?) <) (Guitar Pick) - Liked (Pictured above) <?) (Silhouetted Pick) - No Rank (Default) </) (Broken Pick) - Disliked (Never chosen randomly?) /) (Halved Pick) - Hated (Off-Sync/HOPO issues...) i dunno the actual usefulness of a rank system on a game like this, but i was just thinking it would be awesome to have in case a feature is ever developed in the future to utilize our rankings, like if you could sort you song list diffently like in "Stepmania". for example, if you added a "sort" button on the songlist screen, we could theoretically sort our tracks by score, # of times played/Max BPM/Song Length/ Rank... or even song title, THEN they could be sorted alphabetically @ the users descetion, rather than the default as for the "# of Plays", we could use whatever guitar icons or picture we choose, renamed TimesPlayedSingle.png, TimesPlayedSmall.png, TimesPlayedBig.png & TimesPlayedLarge.png. it would display one single icon for every play until the 5th plays is reached, then it would display one small icon to represent 5 plays, and when 25 plays are achieved, it would display one big icon, with the lager icon representing 125 plays, and so on and so on... the dimensions of the Song Information Bar is 800w X 64h. i have it placed just above the menubuttons.png. making it only 64 pixels in height keeps the setlist from being obscured, the cursor never gets in the way when you scroll, since 64 pixels seems to be the equivelant of 2 lines of text. it would be sweet if it would fade into view when a song preview begins, and then fade away when a currently playing preview stops, such as when scrolling with the button held down. i dont think the bar should take up the whold width of the 800 pixels, but i dont have the skills to make the sides of the song information bar a gradient transparency that fades into the background, i sux0rz @ GIMP i hope ive been clear consice and helpful, this is completely open to discussion i can lend a help with images if neded, but i highly believe weve got some xcellent artists in this little forum who can step up to the plate...please take this idea into consideration calli, displaying the song label, artist, and high score on the setlist will greatly improve the users enjoyment! when my homies come to play they love the game, but become so lost on the setlist since theres hardly any information about the song... i believe displaying the song label on the setlist would aid in the selection of the songs visually, which i s fun! the actual only other requests i would like to make this oppertunity to make is that you should have a gold star displayed for when a song is 100%ed, i think GH has something similar, and also... PLEASE CALLISTO REIMPLEMENT SORTING OF THE SONGLIST BY FOLDERNAME, IT WAS THE DEFAULT IN BETAS 1 & 2, I SIMPLY REQUEST AN OPTION TO CHOOSE IT AS MY DEFAULT SORTING IN THE CONFIG.XML, PLEASE CALLISTO! i love playing the teirs ordered by difficulty, and this is impossible if the songlist is sorted alphabetically. i love guitar zero, i admit it. THANK YOU!

Post by hulkhaugen on Apr 4, 2008 14:53:27 GMT -5
i think it would be cooler to have it as a separat image that may overlap the scoremeter, and appear when you got x notes. Something like the last one you got there, but that one is ripped, right? iancernice idéa. maybe it would look better if the infobar went all the way to the bottom? i know it's a sketch and all, but i think it looks a bit messy with the songtitles appearing below them and under the menubuttons. Also, in the first setlist where you choose gh1, gh2, costum etc, the infobar could say like: " 34 of 49 songs completed. 7 tiers total". I would also like to add the feature that IF there is a "year = 2008" in the song.ini, the game would display that aswell next to the band name, separated with a comme (yep, just like in gh3 )

I think being able to place objects in the ingame scene using an xml, or maybe a sort of "level editor", idk except it allows you to move things around and rotate, etc meters, that saves into an xml.
I thought callisto was thinking of implementing more xmls depending on the success of the menus.xml
