Hey, I've recorded a few tunes I've written on my PC with Ableton and I want to turn them into GZ songs. I figure the best way to do this would to create a new midi track in the sequencer and just write the guitar part into the piano roll editor and bounce the guitar part and backing track seperaty and save the midi file seperatly as well. It means everything's in time and perfect.
However, I have no idea what MIDI notes correspond to fret buttons, or how to add hammer-ons or star power etc. so I was wondering if anyone could tell me what notes correspond to what?
Oh yeah, and I'm happy to let whoever use my songs for whatever. I'm not making money from them so they're free to anyone.
Cheers

I've written out a midi version as C1 being the green fret to E1 being the Orange.
Hopefully, that's right?
FYI, I got the solo down and if I get this thing working it's going to be a monster to play. No way I could do it.
Could somebody even take over from here? There's only a few hammer-ons to go in and star power you can stick wherever.

Here's the ScoreHero Guitar Hero midi encyclopedia : linkIt's probably the best reference out there right now.

OK, brilliant. For ease of information in case anyone else wants it;
C-E are the frets green to orange G is star power A is player 1 (face off) A# is player 2 (face off)
Difficulty is 3-6, easy to expert (i.e. C3 will be green fret on easy)
No indication of how HOPOs work, though. Anybody know?

HoPos are determined automatically by Guitar Hero/Zero. Any transition less than or equal to an 8th note triplet (12th note) falls within the default HoPo threshold. In GZ2, you can add the following line to the song.ini file to alter the threshold (This line makes 8th notes HoPo-able): hopo_note = 8 When the next GZ2 beta is released, you can also utilize the GH3 type HoPo system, where any note with a '*' track event at the same time will have its HoPo status toggled. You'll have to convert the midi to a chart file first, and add the event in Feedback (to convert, just open the midi file in Feedback or use a converter). As far as I'm aware, midi files will not have '*' support for GZ2, so if you utilize this feature, you will have to distribute your song as a .chart file. To alter the default HoPo threshold for a .chart file, add the hopo_note= line to the [Song] section of the chart (open with a text editor, like notepad): [Song] { Name = "Where Moth And Rust Destroy" Artist = "Tourniquet" Charter = "darthslaw" Offset = 0.07 Resolution = 192 Player2 = rhythm Difficulty = 0 PreviewStart = 0.00 PreviewEnd = 0.00 Genre = "Metal" MediaType = "cd" MusicStream = "Ogg/wheremothandrustdestroy.ogg" Year = 2003 hopo_note = 8 }
(it will actually be indented when you open the file... the forums trim off the leading spaces here though) I hope at least some of that made sense

Perfect sense has been made. Thnaks a lot and I'll get right on it. I've got the expert and hard mode for my song done with star power in Ableton... 1/32 notes at 140 BPM (i.e. over 32 notes a second)... who want's a go ?

Well this is how I do it. B# (ie C) is Green, C# is Red, D is yellow, Eb is Blue and Fb is Orange. I usually chart in the key of Bb to automatically make my E's Eb's. Middle C is the Green for easy, go up an octave higher for each different level. For hammer ons this is determined by distance between single notes. So edit all the short notes to single 32nd notes so that you won't have tails to have the hammer ons. Remember that if a note is longer than a 32nd than it will have considered a held note.

Also, G above the Fb is star power. Just make a long note to create a starpower section.
