iancerWow, now that was a really concisely developed idea. I like it very much and I'll try to implement something like this on the weekend! Nice work, really! Bye, Callisto

i have a little request i think is not too hard, would be possible "remove" the BPM lines from the fretboard? something like: <ShowBpmLines>false</ShowBpmLines> as you see the fretboard looks curved but the BPM lines break the effect

JD2504Yep, I'll do something about that with the next bigger release. Probably I'll give you the possibility to put a (custom) texture on top of the bpm lines. Thus, you could use a curved arc as the texture.

Speaking of the BPM lines, could you fix it so that when GZ2 reads a .dat file, the lines keep with the tempo, like they do with .chart and .mid files? Right now, it seems like GZ2 just keeps moving the lines at the initial tempo of .dat files (just a guess) and when the tempo changes later on, the lines fall out of sync with the notes.
Just try any of the Guitar Hero 1/2/80s songs -- play the notes.mid first, then play the song.dat (if you need some song.dat files to test with, I can upload some).
Not all dats will necessarily be "fixed" ; songs charted in freetar are usually the ones that are never perfectly synched with the fret lines. All of the Guitar Hero dats will be fixed though.
Also, if you need it again, the syntax for the TEMPO tag is: <TEMPO>:(1):(2):(3):(4) (1) = Start time in seconds (2) = Unknown (doesn't appear to do anything in GZ1; could be an obsolete control value); you can just ignore whatever value is here (3) = Start time in clicks (why both clicks and seconds on the same line, I don't know) (4) = the BPM (like 185.0, as opposed to .chart files' 185000)

@darthslaw Mmmh... I actually didn't even notice that problem before. I'll see if I can correct that behavior for the next update.

how about in celebration of official rockband rips showing up having note rotation as an optional setting along with a png beat line in aid of getting a more functional rb theme, wink wink nod nod

lol fatdog u REAAAAALLY hate that rotation huh xD
why not just dissable the rotation at all? ppl say "NO! the gh star notes would look weird" but if u see the GH3 mod for FOF their star notes dont rotate, they are 2D and its not even noticiable

i like the rotation, but the lack of control over it is a real shame, my old note sets were designed to work with the original note rotation that was removed ages ago, currently the starpower note rotation is to slow anyway for gh3 style and now it spoils the rb sp notes, its really a features that should have settings since 1 setting doesn't work
if there was an xml in the meshes folder that could be included with note packs with something like normal note rotation true false, hopo rotation sp rotation etc, and then rotation speed 0 - 100 it'd be very cool, then users wouldn't need to manually adjust settings when switching note packs, just copy over and its ready to go

fatdogCan you build an .x/.fbx file of a starpower note that includes the rotation as an animation? In that case, I would make the animation customizable (i.e. by including it in the model file). Bye, Callisto

sure, animation support would be great, what framerate do u want to use for animation 25, 30, 60 etc? heres the gh3 starnotes, designed to run at 30fps, and if its working properly it should do a 720 degree rotation, 2 full spins in 3 seconds (90 frames) www.mediafire.com/?dzeiyijzgtx

Hi Callisto, i think it will be great if you could add antialiasing support. As is a low resolution game, it could be use even 8xS AA without perfomance loss even with a low-end graphic card.
Thanks.

i think, it could be better to put "Best hit rate" instead of "Average hit rate" in the SondDetailInfo, just an idea great job callisto ;D

Maybe it was mention before, I know you can change the User Name under Player1 in config.xml. The request is for a name profiler. Maybe in the menu. Just like in GH2 Where you can make a band name. I couldn't tell who put a highscore on the scoreboard. Because it all shows player 1. Unless this is done by mods and not the UI? All in all the updates are GREAT. Thanks Callisto

I would like to see a starpower meter, even a text percentage for now. Another thing I think would be really useful for modders is the option to change the meter placement in say the menus.xml or a new one like ingame.xml (which would be better as... well those arent in the menus ). As well as the meter placement, maybe a fretboard thickness (in pixels, say 400 as default). SP and Regular note rotation settings in there as well, maybe make them speeds, 0 being no rotation, 1 being 1 rotation per sec, 2.5 being 2 and a half rotations per second. This way modders can make their notes spin as they want. And finally, similar to FoF, a name entry at the end of each song if you get a high score, because its a pain for me and my friends to play, and all their scores go under my name on my PC. Please consider these, as it will make the game far more moddable, and make the rockband mod that jd2504 made even better. Also, the ability to stick avi's in the backgrounds of menus, behind the text and borders or whatever the people want. Then they can stick the video in the bottom layer, have a transparent png background, their menu texts and all that. It'll make jd's rockband mod much closer to the real thing. And finally, one more suggestion, the ability to turn the transitions between menus on or off in the menus.xml. I noticed the rockband mod looks kinda bad with it swinging over in the options menu (if you look at his mods screenshots, you'll see the options come up beside the main menu, rather than being their own thing). I really hope you consider these, maybe in beta 6 (the next big release) because they'll help modders truly customize their mods. Maybe even in the next release, it probably shouldnt be too much trouble, maybe 3 lines of code each.

(sorry for double post) you dont need it. Go into your video control panel (I use nvidia) I'm running 16xQ AA, 16x AF and supersampling transparency AA, looks just awesome, fixes the resolution problem instantly. I'll take a screenshot in a sec. Check out the quality in this screen shot, settings are as above

One setlist labels suggestion: it could be great to rotate between various "label.png" for a same song with an "x" seconds lapse defined in "config.xml". Example: in a Guitar Hero song folder there is "label.png" showing Guitar Hero logo, and there is "label2.png" which shows the album art. In the setlist it will rotate between the game logo and the album art, perhaps fading one into other or another cool transition. Here is the GH logos i use: rapidshare.com/files/107844748/Guitar_Hero_logos.zip.html

@callisto if you could make the game search for 'label.png' recursively that would make it so songs without a label in their folders will still display the 'tiers' label if 'label.png' exists in the next higher up directory. for example: if 'songs/1/2/label.png' does not exist it looks for 'songs/1/label.png' next, please man, after that label support would be perfected, ya know?
P.S. (Sorting songlist by Year should be an available option as well...)

iancerThe recursive label search is coming with the next update. Regarding sorting by year: As the "year" tag is a proprietary extension to the song files formats, its highly doubtful that someone would have enough files with that info to sort by it? But I don't care, I can put it into the sort options.

But I don't care, I can put it into the sort options. I have almost all GH 1, 2, 80's, 3 and RB song.ing correctly tagged year included, except for three or four songs i could not find the year. I upload when i arrive home. About sorting it could be great if it could be done on the fly in the setlist, choosing by artist, track or year, with and without tiers.

I apologize if someone else has complained enough of this thing, but really, the songs are too easy to pass on expert. I think many in this forum knows the Puppetz Hero? Well, the song '12 Donkeys' on tier 8 is VERY tough song to beat, but it can be passed even under 70% with GZ2. I think that shouldn't be possible on any guitar hero game or GH clone..

I'm gonna guess that it's largely because GZ doesn't yet use GH's hit/miss inc/decrements yet (heard of Puppetz Hero, haven't yet played it). I think it should probably stay that way, or not go completely GH, until the HOPO system is improved (so you can strum them without screwing your streak, and costing energy), otherwise songs like Miserlou would become practically impossible.
Just my thoughts on the matter.

I have always though that was due to the meter not decreasing and increasing enough. So like you can either miss a bucketload of notes and be ok or much more likely you can miss loadsa notes and just hit 1 or 2 and make it through the song. I have passed every song in the puppetz hero collection (btw they are amazingly fun to play and fretted 100 percent right) and yet i doubt i could do that on GH3 (ill know soon as im just waiting for seeds again ) <EDIT> i mean the meter goes up a huge amount when you hit (in comparison with GH3) not that it doesnt go up enough!
